Marketa Vondrousova carries the top seed at the Internationaux de Strasbourg into the quarterfinals as she matches up with Anhelina Kalinina on Friday in France.

The Czech Republic native is favored to advance to the semifinals at -225, although Vondrousova didn’t look impressive in her opening match of the event. Magda Frech gave her all she could handle in her second-round clash but after dropping the opening set she rebounded and prevailed.

Ukrainian National Anhelina Kalinina has needed three sets to get past both of her opponents in Strasbourg, and it will take a big effort to get past Vondrousova.

Ej’s Marketa Vondrousova vs Anhelina Kalinina prediction features odds at -104 which can be found below.

VONDROUSOVA VS KALININA PREDICTION

  • Prediction: Over 20.5 Games
  • Best Odds: -104
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time May 24, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Anhelina Kalinina knows what she is up against, but that won’t stop her from giving Marketa Vondrousova a battle on Friday. A trip to the semifinals is on the line, and the winner of this clash will advance to face Danielle Collins who already earned her way there.

Kalinina needed three sets to get past both Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Fiona Ferro to reach the quarters, and it might be another long afternoon in Strasbourg. Anhelina knows she can beat the top-seeded Vondrousova because she pulled it off last year in Beijing, China.

That was also a 3-set affair, so now I am wondering why I just don’t put the Over 2.5 sets prop on the board again. You all know by now I love that prop bet and I have offered it a handful of times with my past articles.

I am going to stick with the straight total today though, although it might take that extra set to hit the Over 20.5 Games anyway. I digress because I am going to suggest a bonus bet as I like to do from time to time.

Kalinina is going to get the first set victory, and at +145 that is an offer with plenty of value behind it. Oh, you bet there will be a tie-break in one of these sets today, and the price for that call is outstanding at +265.

The last time they met in Beijing, Kalinina got humiliated out of the gate with a 6 – 1 first-set loss, and then the wheels fell off for Vondrousova. Anhelina took the second set, 6 – 4, and then handed Marketa a 6 – 1 beatdown to finish off the Czech in three sets.

Play the total, and enjoy the bonus offers full of value in Strasbourg.

MARKETA VONDROUSOVA RECENT FORM

Marketa was 7 – 3 last year on clay, and she is one win away from reaching that mark again in 2024. The Czech native has only played 18 matches this year, as she was 5 – 4 on hard courts before the clay swing of the WTA Tour and is 6 – 3 on the dirt this season.

Vondrousova won a single match in Madrid before being ousted by Andreeva, and she won only one match in Rome before getting knocked out of that event by Cirstea.

ANHELINA KALININA RECENT FORM

Anhelina has a 7 – 4 record on clay this season and she is 14 – 13 overall for the 2024 campaign.

After reaching 28th in the WTA World Rankings in 2023, she has fallen to 56th currently. The 27-year-old Ukrainian has earned four titles on clay, although all of them came in the 2021 campaign at the ITF level.

VONDROUSOVA VS KALININA HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH:

Vondrousova and Kalinina have split wins from two meetings. They first met in 2022 at the Shrewsbury event in the UK, and Vondrousova won that match in straight sets.

Their most recent meeting I spoke of above, was a three-setter that Kalinina ended up winning after dropping the first set, so this is the rubber match between them today. The winner lands a contest against American Danielle Collins in the other semifinal in Strasbourg.
