I have two words for you… CHOKE ARTIST! Maria Sakkari has defined the choke this year, and I can take it even further back if you like. It’s been 5 years since the title run in Rabat, and Sakkari has won one tournament win since (Guadalajara ‘23).

A top 10 player on tour should be playing much better than this and I am fading the Greek until the cows come home! Wait, they just arrived so that time is now!

At -200, you have got to be out of your ever-loving mind to pay that juice for Sakkari to win this match. Find me a win over ANYONE in the top 20 of the rankings this year and I will change my mind. Oh, she has none! 

Ranked 19th in the world, Kostyuk has been favored in both of her matches in Paris and a pair of straight-set wins has the Ukrainian feeling confident. Marta will be in action later this evening playing doubles with Yastremska but before we get there Kostyuk is about to pull off an upset special in the third round of singles play.

At +170, expect Sakkari to fold like a lawn chair because that’s what she does, and take Marta to advance to the quarters.

Two wins have been the ceiling for Sakkari since her run to the semifinals in Charleston and here we are again! Sakkari has two wins at the Olympic Games over Daria Kovinic and Yue Yuan and to that, I say SO WHAT!

Marta Kostyuk only has one tournament title to her credit since 2020 but the 22-year-old Ukraine native is still climbing her way up the ladder. This win over a top-10 opponent will fill her with confidence and the numbers will take care of themselves.

Kostyuk is 7 – 4 on clay this season with a 24 – 13 record over the 2024 campaign.
