Qualifying for the U.S. Open main draw has officially begun, and Maja Chwalinska will face Maya Joint on Tuesday in New York. 

Chwalinska and Joint are paired up in the Third Qualifier section and it will take three wins in this stage to be a part of the Main Draw for the last Major Tournament of the 2024 campaign.

For the third time this season Maja Chwalinska and Maya Joint will face each other and the two recently met in the Warsaw Challenger semifinals.

Maja Chwalinska hasn’t played since taking the loss to Joint in Warsaw on July 26 and the  Polish native enters this event ranked 168th on tour. 

Chwalinska was riding a 13-game win streak into the semifinals at Warsaw including a run to the WTA75 Porto2 title. I expect the 22-year-old Pole to be stepping up in appearances from the ITF/Challenger level soon.

Chwalinska started the 2024 season ranked 359th in the world, and that number has already jumped nearly 200 points to 168th and we have 4 months left in the campaign. 

Maya Joint reached the final after getting past Chwalinska in Warsaw but the Aussie-American fell to Alycia Parks and was left with a runners-up trophy. While I said that Chwalinska will be moving up in tournament levels, the 18-year-old is already making a name for herself. Joint has already picked up two tournament wins and speaking of a jump in ranking… How about from 738 to 139 in only 8 months? 

With 50 wins already claimed this season, Joint will be a regular on the WTA Tour soon enough and these two want to make a big impression in New York. If you recall, Joint also produced a nice win streak to start March including a run to the San Diego title. 

We’re going the distance so expect this to be a battle to the end!

MAJA CHWALINSKA RECENT FORM

Maja Chwalinska has not played since taking the loss to Joint in Warsaw, and as mentioned that loss in the semifinal snapped a 13-game win streak for the Polish native.

Chwalinska has a record of 16 – 6 on hardcourts and an 18 – 8 result on clay this year, although she didn’t play a single match on grass this season.

MAYA JOINT RECENT FORM

Maya Joint is 50 – 19 this season and we can safely say she won’t have a losing record on any surface in 2024. Despite the 2 – 2 record on grass, Joint is 27 – 9 on hardcourts with a  21 – 8 record on clay.

Joint went 1 – 1 in Landisville, PA picking up a win over Sharma before falling to 209th-ranked Yexin Ma in three sets.

CHWALINSKA VS JOINT H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Maya Joint is 2 – 0 against Chwalinska and this is the third time these two are meeting in 2024.

As mentioned in Warsaw, Joint snapped Chwalinska’s 13-match win streak in an odd three-set match. After Joint won the first set 6 – 2, Chwalinksa responded with an equivalent 6 – 2 second set win and then folded like a lawn chair in the final frame, 6 – 0.

The first meeting was in May at a WTA50 event at the Otocek2 in Solvenia on clay, and that match had a similar feel to the most recent clash in Warsaw. Joint won the first set 6 – 1, and Chwalinska responded with a 7 – 5 second set victory only to flop 6 – 1 in the third set.
