Arianne Hartono started the second-round affair against Xinyu Gao on Wednesday and they didn’t complete the affair until early Friday morning in Thailand. Almost 12 hours ahead of us here in New York, I must admit the Asian swing is a pain in my tuckus because staying up late to watch these matches is not easy, HA!

It won’t stop me and I am waking up early to take in this match that should be a pretty nice battle. I am taking the underdog Hartono to provide the upset and reach the first semifinal of her career at the WTA level in Thailand.

When this line opened I saw -110 and -110 on either woman to take this victory so the early steam must be moving this line up to -125 on the Japan native to reach the semis.

I digress because even though these two are ranked 50 spots apart in the rankings, that means nothing and I will take the 180th-ranked Hartono to take out 130th-ranked Hontama.

We enjoyed the Over 2.5 sets cashout from the Tararudee second-round affair, and the 184th-ranked Thai native had Hontama on the ropes. Hontama dropped the first set and was level at 4 – 4 before she turned on the jets and finished strong.

Hontama won 8 of the last 9 games in the match with an easy 6 – 1 final frame victory to advance.

This match could go the distance but I will ride with the underdog Hartono to the win at +110.

Mai Hontama is 23 – 20 on hardcourts this season with a record of 26 – 27 facing a potential losing record for the first time since 2020.

Hontama hasn’t produced a 3-match win streak since May at Gifu Japan but that could change today after two main draw wins in Thailand.

Hartono is 29 – 17 this season on hardcourts and it’s the only surface that she’s found a win in 2024. Arianne was 0 – 2 on grass and clay after going 0 – 3 on the surfaces combined the season before so let’s not bet on her on those surfaces!

Hartono is 4 – 0 this week with two qualifying wins and victories over Uchijima and Gao. in the main draw.
