Magda Frech and Emma Navarro will contest a second-round clash at the Wuhan Open on Tuesday and the American lands the chalk as the favorite to advance.

Navarro has been struggling to find her game but the line setters have slapped a -300 on the 8th-ranked player on the WTA Tour. Navarro is barely holding on to one of the spots in the WTA Finals but a slip in China could be devastating for the American to hold on to that spot.

The Polish native easily dismissed Mai Hontama in the first round, and EJ Garr’s Magdalena Frech vs. Emma Navarro prediction leans on the underdog to put up a fight, with odds at -115.

Magdalena Frech vs Emma Navarro Prediction: A Struggling American in China

Since reaching the semifinal of the US Open, Navarro is 2 – 3 over the last 5 outings. The loss to Shuai Zhang in Beijing left plenty of heads shaking as a -1200 favorite was beaten in straight sets. Zhang had just snapped a 24-match losing skid in the previous match against McCartney Kessler and then Navarro was the next victim for Zhang.

Navarro was once again a huge favorite in Hong Kong and after two wins in that event, the wheels fell off again. Anna Blinkova was a +550 underdog against Navarro and Emma couldn’t muster up the effort to win a set and was sent packing.

With Navarro’s confidence shaken, Magda Frech has the perfect opportunity to pull off the upset at odds of +240. I will not be that bold, but I expect Frech to put up a good fight against Navarro and cover the +4.5 handicap. 

At -115, Unibet has the best odds on the play although I am watching it inflate to -120 and -125 at the well-known books. 

Magda will give Navarro all she can handle so the +4.5 holds enough value for me at -115 to cover the line. I can’t suggest the Over 2.5 Sets prop because if Navarro falls apart again it would only benefit Magda in the long run.

Magda is ranked 27th on the WTA Tour and is 8 – 1 over the last 9 outings including a run to the Guadalajara title. 

Frech is 26 – 14 on hard courts this season and has a record of  39 –  27 in 2024.

Frech is also competing in doubles at Wuhan with her partner Viktoriya Tomova.

EMMA NAVARRO RECENT FORM

if Emma Navarro loses her first match at the Wuhan Open it will knock her out of the top 10. Currently ranked 8th, the loss to Zhang was a big hit to Navarro’s confidence and the WTA Finals are around the corner. 

Navarro is 2 – 3 in the last 5 outings and the American couldn’t win a set in either of the three losses. 

Navarro is 32 – 13 on hard courts this season and has a record of  54 – 23 in 2024 

FRECH VS NAVARRO H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Magda Frech and Emma Navarro have played three times in the last two campaigns and Navarro holds a 2 – 1 edge in the series.

In last year’s US Open, Frech won the first meeting in three sets and Navarro exacted some revenge this past January to start the season with a win at Hobart.

As mentioned above, the two met in Monterrey and after Frech won the first-set tie-break Navarro turned it into a three-set win.
