Linda Noskova vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Livesport Prague Open Preview and Expert Tip: Young Czech to Outmanoeuvre Erratic Opponent
Linda Noskova vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova (Livesport Prague Open): Friday, August 4th
No result to report from the Maria Sakkari wager, as the rain in Washington, D.C. saw play delayed until well after the time of writing.
Let’s move onto Friday’s tennis action, where we’ll switch focus to the Livesport Prague Open for our WTA selection and look at Linda Noskova vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova.
Linda Noskova vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Expert Tip
It was much tougher sledding than expected for the talented young Czech on Thursday, as she came close to losing to Ankita Raina, an ITF player who has made no impact at the WTA Tour level prior to this week.
She’ll be happy to get past that test though and play someone who may be better in Schmiedlova, but doesn’t play the same consistent style that gave her fits in the second round.
I’ll back Noskova and her talent to move into the semifinals here and do so in rather comfortable fashion.

Linda Noskova Recent Form
It’s been a breakout year for the 18-year-old up-and-comer from the Czech Republic. After beating a series of high-profile names to start the year in Adelaide, she was also able to qualify in Linz and make a run all the way to the quarterfinals at the 250 event in Austria.
Those results vaulted her into the world’s top-50 (she’s since come back down to 71 in the rankings), which meant she’s been a tour-level regular for much of the season.
That has seen her go through some tough stretches, just because there are going to be times when she is handed a tough draw. Coco Gauff in the third round of Indian Wells is one example. Petra Kvitova in the second round in Miami or Elena Rybakina in the second round at the French Open are two more.
She has found four wins from her last five matches, however, playing back at the 250 level against much more manageable fields of players. She reached the quarterfinals in Warsaw last week (again, losing to a top player in Iga Swiatek) and now finds herself in that position once more.
She has a very well-rounded game as we previewed last week. Good serve, very strong backhand, plays with consistency, but can also dictate play from the baseline.
Those are things that will take her far against players like Schmiedlova, who can hit the ball hard, but really struggle for any semblance of consistency. While her wins have been a mixed bag the last few weeks, I trust her here against this type of opponent to get the job done.
Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Recent Form
It’s hard to really dissect Schmiedlova’s form, because it’s so often the same analysis. Really powerful from the baseline, but erratic with said power means she’s going to pull off upsets, but also lose to inferior competition. She’ll often win a match or two at events, but deep runs into the business end of tournaments are rare. She’s yet to make it past the quarterfinals at an even she’s played this year, and the last semifinal round she reached at a WTA Tour event was all the way back in June of 2022 in Makarska at a 125K (it’s worth noting she reached the later rounds at a few ITF events though).
I often find value in backing her as an underdog when she takes on other players that play a similar boom-or-bust style, or if she’s outrageously cheap in the betting markets against someone consistent that she can hit through on one of her good days.
Against someone that can both hit with her, exploit her backhand and play a somewhat consistent match? Not so much.
Linda Noskova vs Anna Karolina Schmiedlova H2H – Stat of the Match
No head-to-head to report on in this contest.
For the statistical portion of this article, it’s tough to pick just one stat. I think grazing over the pages of each player’s tennis abstract and looking at their data on hard courts over the course of the last 52 weeks says it all. From backing up the first serve, to backing up the second, to ace-to-double-fault ratio and hold percentage, there’s very little that Schmiedlova does better than her counterpart.
With Schmiedlova also liable to lose by margin, it’s hard to make a case for her against the burgeoning star that is Noskova.
