Leylah Fernandez is ranked 33rd in the world and that is 45 spots ahead of Viktorija Golubic who holds the 78th position on tour. 

Fernandez being strongly favored only means to me that we get more games to cover with Golubic and the +4 handicap at even odds. The +4.5 has marginal juice at -125, which is surely an option for those who don’t mind paying a little vig.

We cashed the Osorio vs Golubic Over 2.5 sets prop from that first-round battle, and let’s not forget that Viktorija was the underdog as she earned the three-set win. Since 2021, Golubic is 24 – 14 on grass, and after two poor showing to start her grass campaign the Swiss native finally has some momentum on her side. 

Golubic only played 5 matches on clay this year after getting injured in late January, and it has taken some time to get back in shape. 

Fernandez looked impressive in her first-round match with Sorribes Tormo, and her return to serve was the biggest highlight. Amazingly, Leylah lost the opening serve of the match and went on to win both sets against Tormo at 1 & 1 breaking her three times in each set.

We can all agree that 2024 has been filled with mixed results for both ladies who haven’t played much tennis this season. Fernandez is 12 – 12 this year, and Golubic holds a 10 – 9 record so neither has enjoyed much success this season.. 

I expect Golubic once again to win at least a set in this match, and that will put a couple of games in our pocket unless it goes 7 – 6. Being an underdog won’t bother Golubic and it’s not like she going up against a confident Fernandez with grass experience.
