Kristina Mladenovic vs Emiliana Arango WTA Florianopolis Challenger Prediction: An Upset Brewing In Brazil

I am calling for the upset because Emiliana Arango shouldn’t be favored at -200 against anyone!  As I look around I see the average odds of -175 toward an Arango win but what has the Colombian native done to deserve that?

Arango is 2 – 5 over the last 7 outings and those two wins were against two players ranked outside the top 350. The win over 1287th-ranked Julia Caffarena in Buenos Aires proved nothing to me even if it was a clean sweep, 12 – 0. 

I will need to see Arango prove she can beat someone closer to her ranking as Mladenovic is only 206th to Arango’s 181st on the WTA Tour. 

Mladenovic has been playing some bad tennis lately with an equal 2 – 5 record over the last 7 outings. That doesn’t instill much confidence toward the potential upset of Arango and it almost makes me want to point to a 3-set affair because we will see plenty of breaks of serve in this first-round affair at the Florianopolis Challenger.

I tend to be able to sniff out a three-set encounter although I still haven’t seen lines available on set props. The lines available to me at 8 p.m. here in New York on Sunday night aren’t out yet but I assume the line will fall at about +145 for the Over 2.5 sets prop bet.

We might go the distance and Mladenovic will be victorious on Monday in Brazil en route to a second-round appearance.

KRISTINA MLADENOVIC RECENT FORM

Mladenovic is facing a third straight season with a losing record. At 10 – 16 on clay this season, Mladenovic is 25 – 31 and hasn’t won a tournament in two years.

Mladenovic hasn’t produced a winning campaign since 2019 and was ranked just outside the top 10 in 2017 before the decline to 206th.

EMILIANA ARANGO RECENT FORM

Arango is 14 – 13 on clay this season and a 23 – 33 record leaves the Colombian facing a second losing campaign in three years.

After a 43 – 26 2023 season that brought Arango to 116th on the WTA Tour, it’s been three years since she has hoisted a trophy dating back to 2021.
