I apologize for the marginal juice today because it isn’t very often you see that from me around here. I don’t think -120 is too steep of an offer to put the Brazilian Fade in effect again because I have no faith in Pigossi to accomplish anything.
If you recall, someone around here called for Pigossi to get removed in Argentina against Jazmin Ortenzi because I have no problem fading the Brazilian.
Ranked 163td, Pigossi sits well ahead of Kawa who takes up the 247th spot in the WTA Rankings. That means nothing! I have said 100 times that rankings in these lower events don’t hold much weight because there is barely a difference between players ranked 150 – 300. Anyone playing in these ITF/Challenger events can catch a flame at any moment and just as easily stink up the joint on any given day.
Service issues are almost always the case for these players ranked outside of the top 100 and if you recall from that Ortenzi match the 254th-ranked Argentinan broke Pigossi five times en route to an easy straight-sets win.
Pigossi didn’t smack one ace past 384th-ranked Anastasia Kulikova in the first round and I doubt she’ll have much success on Thursday with her service game.
Kawa needs to focus as she did in the first round plowing over another Brazilian, Luiza Fullana, and she’ll be fine!
Kawa to cover the -1.5 games is the bet to make at -120.
KATARZYNA KAWA RECENT FORM
Katarzyna Kawa is 10 – 4 over the last 14 outings after a disastrous 0 – 8 run from July 15th to October 8th.
The 32-year-old Polska native hasn’t won a tournament since the 2012 ITF Prague Open.
With a 16 – 10 record on clay, it is the only surface keeping Kawa relevant after going 0 – 3 on grass and 6 – 11 on hard courts this season.
LAURA PIGOSSI RECENT FORM
Laura Pigossi is 3 – 6 over the last 9 outings and has a winning record on clay this year at 27 – 20. Pigossi went 9 – 9 on hard courts and made one appearance on grass this year resulting in a loss at Wimbledon.
The 30-year-old Brazilian is 36 – 33 this season and hasn’t posted a losing campaign in four seasons on the WTA tour.
KAWA VS PIGOSSI HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
Katarzyna Kawa and Laura Pigossi recently met in a qualifying match for the French Open in June. Pigossi won the affair in straight sets at 2 & 3 and reached the main draw only to fall in the first round to Marta Kostyuk.
The winner of this second-round match will play Maria Carle in the quarterfinals of the MundoTenis Open.
