Julia Riera and Francesco Jones square off on Tuesday at the Copa Colsanitas, and as expected, the Brit carries the chalk into this first-round affair from Colombia.
At odds ranging from -250 to -275, Jones rolls into Colombia with an 11 – 2 record over the last 13 outings, riding high from the tournament win last week at the WTA75 event in Vacaria, Brazil.
Riera and Jones met in Brazil last week, and the Argentinian native was sent packing from Vacaria after finding three wins in Brazil.
EJ Garr’s prediction for Julia Riera vs. Francesca Jones features odds of -115, which can be found below.

Julia Riera was finally picking up steam in Brazil, winning three outings before running into Francesca Jones. The Argentine went 3 – 0 at the Australian Open to begin the season, but that is the only success that Riera has had this year.
Including the loss that ended her Australian Open, Riera went 0 – 2 in Mexico and lost a fourth straight outing in Antalya, Turkey, before the 3-game win streak last week in Brazil.
Landing Francesca Jones in the opening round is not a good sign for the Argentinian, who is a big underdog against the British native.
Jones kicked off clay season in style, winning the Vacaria title last week with a perfect 5 – 0 record. The 24-year-old Bradford, England native has enjoyed success on clay for years, and is already off to a roaring start to the year.
I can’t fade what Francesca Jones is doing, and to see a mere -3.5 games at a respectable -115 is almost a gift. Their meeting in Brazil last week went 6 – 4, 6 – 4, and I would be just fine with a similar result today to get us paid.
The Jones Correct Score prop is listed at -105 to sweep Riera out of Colombia, so it’s a pick-your-poison call to make. Jones will win this match in straight sets and will cover the handicap either way.
Jones has three ITF titles on clay and is set up nicely for a deep run this week in Colombia. Expect the Brit to be a semifinalist, at worst, as the bottom bracket isn’t filled with intimidating names.
JULIA RIERA RECENT FORM
Juliar Riera is 6 – 5 this season with a 3 – 2 record on clay, ranked 157th on the WTA Tour.
Riera has seven ITF titles on clay since the 2021 season, and went 28 – 14 in 2024 with a pair of titles on the dirt.
Argentina went 80 – 41 on clay combined during the 2022-23 campaigns, making this her strongest surface on the tour.
FRANCESCA JONES RECENT FORM
Francesca Jones went 9 – 4 on hardcourts before running off five wins last week to begin clay season at Vacaria, Brazil.
Jones won her third ITF title on clay last week and went 28 – 13 on the dirt last season.
Jones’ ranking moved from 152nd to 129th since the start of the campaign, and the projection for a top 100 spot is good!
RIERA VS JONES HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
Riera and Jones have met three times since the 2023 season on the WTA Tour, and the Brit holds a 2 – 1 edge in the series.
Jones won their most recent meeting in Brazil and took last year’s encounter with Riera in San Luis Potosi.
The first meeting was in 2023 at Guayaquil, and Riera earned that win in straight sets.
The winner of this match will face Iva Jovic or Alycia Parks in the second round of the Copa Colsanitas.
