Jessica Pegula and Elina Svitolina smashed their way out of the first round in Paris on Sunday, and the two will meet on Monday in Paris at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

The line setters are showing no favoritism in this second-round battle offering a -110 toward the American and Ukrainian to advance to the third round at Roland Garros.

Pegula missed most of the clay swing of the WTA Tour and the American has been detailing with injuries dating back to February. Svitolina hasn’t had much success against Pegula but the Ukrainian National has an edge on clay that will come in handy on the clay in Paris.

EJ Garr’s Jessica Pegula vs Elina Svitolina prediction is featured below at +140 on the expectation of a lengthy battle.

Jessica Pegula vs Elina Svitolina Prediction: An Evenly Matched Battle in Paris

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +140
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time July 29, 2024.

Jess Pegula has competed in one clay event this season at Charleston but the American is no stranger to the dirt. Pegula carries the 5-seed in this event ranked 6th in the World and there is a ton of pressure on all four Americans to get results in Paris.

Pegula struggled with her serve in the opening round affair against Golubic, and the second set against the Swiss native featured some ugly tennis! Jess was broken three times in that set and looked extremely nervous to simply start the match losing her opening serve of the game.

Elina Svitolina entered Paris ranked 31st on the WTA Tour and has earned six titles on clay in her career. That experience will be useful at Roland Garros and it gives the Ukrainian a damn good chance to come out of this match with a victory.

Svitolina needed only an hour to dismantle Moyuke Uchijima at 1 & 2 to open the Olympic Games, and that should bode well for her confidence going forward in this event.

Depending on the bookmaker, I see Svitolina being favored at -120 to get past Pegula (BetMGM), although on average the line is -110 on either woman to reach the third round. Pinnacle and Bet365 are offering -110 on the coin-flip call but I don’t think we will need to stress over who wins this second-round affair.

This call is easy for me because both ladies will win a set and then the pressure will rise even more in the final stanza. We’re going the distance, and the Over 2.5 Sets prop lands at +140 for  Pinnacle members.

JESSICA PEGULA RECENT FORM

Jessica Pegula could only commit to one clay tournament this season, although the American picked up 3 wins in Charleston before getting eliminated in the semifinal.

After the win in the first round at the Olympics, Jess is 4 – 1 on the dirt this season but despite the injuries this year the American has one title on grass to her credit (Berlin).

Pegula has a career record of 65 – 47 on clay and is 21 – 9 in 2024.

ELINA SVITOLINA RECENT FORM

Svitolina is 8 – 5 on clay this season with a 23 – 13 record overall, and the Ukraine native knows how to win big events on this surface. With a pair of Rome titles and another pair from Strasbourg in her career,

Svitolina excels on clay and is just two wins away from earning a fifth season with double-digit wins on the dirt.

Elina reached the final eight of the French Open at Roland Garros in June and is 12 – 4 since 2020 on the Parisian dirt.

PEGULA VS SVITOLINA H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Pegula and Svitolina have met five times since 2021, and the American has won the last four battles against the Ukrainian.

Svitolina’s only win against Pegula came from their first meeting at Abu Dhabi in 2021, although three of the five contests between the two have gone the distance including two at Major events (2021 Aussie Open and 2023 US Open).
