Top-seeded Jaqueline Cristian enters the quarterfinals of the Puerto Vallarta Challenger, favored to defeat Tatjana Maria on Friday.

The Romanian native is listed at -165 to advance to the semifinals in Mexico, but has yet to string three wins together this season.

Tatjana Maria started the campaign on fire, winning the WTA100 Bangaluru title, but the German has cooled off since then, hoping to piece together a three-game win streak in Mexico.

EJ Garr’s prediction for Jaqueline Cristian vs. Tatjana Maria features odds at -110, which can be found below.

Jaqueline Cristian vs Tatjana Maria WTA Puerto Vallarta Challenger Prediction: Romanian Favored to Reach Semis

  • Prediction: Jaqueline Cristian -2.5 Games
  • Best Odds: -110
  • Bookmaker: bet365
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on March 28, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Tatjana Maria opened the campaign with two losses from the first three outings, but the German native pounded out five wins at the Bengaluru ITF to win the title before getting her win streak to 6 games.

Times have changed since then for Maria, who has yet to piece another three-game win streak together. Maria lost five of seven outings before entering the Puerto Vallarta Challenger, and after a comfortable first-round win, the German native had to make a comeback in round 2 to land her spot at this stage.

Jodie Burrage took the first set from Maria in the second round, and the 5-seed in this event woke up and righted the ship to advance. Maria was the slight favorite to get past Burrage at -125, and didn’t struggle as a -150 favorite against Stefanini in the opening round.

Jaqi Crisitan didn’t struggle in the least with Harriet Dart in the opening round of the Puerto Vallarta Challenger, but the Romanian was pushed to three sets against Ena Shibahara. Shibahara also put Cristian in the position of having to win the final two frames to advance, as the Japanese native took the first-set win.

I expect this match to go three sets, and I am sure you are wondering why that isn’t my main bet for this quarterfinal affair. Regardless of whether the match needs three sets to push Cristian through, I have the Romanian covering the marginal -2.5 games with -110 odds.
