Odds as at 3:30 am UK Time on January 13th, 2025. Odds may now differ.
This is going to be a fairly simple handicap. Hurkacz isn’t a very strong returner at the best of times. He also tends to play long matches as a result. Factor in quicker conditions and an opponent with a strong serve and attacking game, and it becomes really tough for me to believe this is a lopsided tilt or one where one player wins a strong majority of the time.
Griekspoor has the game to really bother some of the big names, with world No. 2 Alexander Zverev having said in a postmatch interview on court after Griekspoor gave him fits for the third time in 2024 that he has all the tools to be a top-10 kind of player if he applied himself.
That’s high praise and those who watch Griekspoor know that it’s not that much of an exaggeration. Big serve, big forehand, no fear in his aggressive mindset, moves decently and is willing to throw in the occasional approach as well.
I’m big on his ability and with holds likely to come with regularity and fairly easily, he should be able to stay ultra competitive throughout.
I’ll also likely be on some of the other markets that correlate with this selection to mitigate the risk, but I do like these odds so I suggest going for the win.

Hubert Hurkacz Recent Form
After hurting himself at Wimbledon, Hurakcz was…not good the remainder of the season in 2024.
He still had a booming serve, but his baseline game regressed in a big way – and it wasn’t the most impressive baseline game to begin with. He has looked better so far in 2025 at the United Cup, but there still haven’t been head-turning performances and he still doesn’t seem to be back to his best.
Even in the best of times, his serve-and-grind style found it tough to create separation against his opposition. Now? He has one dominant win from five matches against an erratic Alexander Shevchenko.
Tallon Griekspoor Recent Form
I think the market may be penalising the 28-year-old for not having played a warmup event prior to getting going in Melbourne. That seems to be a pattern with those who haven’t played in the first two weeks of the 2025 campaign (with the obvious and understandable exception being Jannik Sinner).
I’m happy to oppose that mentality, seeing as these two and their games styles at this particular venue seemingly destined for a close contest.
The question is, if Griekspoor has a lead and is nearing the finish line, can he finally show he’s progressed and is able to close out matches against bigger names.
Hubert Hurkacz vs Tallon Griekspoor H2H – Stat of the Match
Every one of the four matches between these two has resulted in a deciding set and a close one at that. The four meetings have also been split evenly, with the score standing at 2-2.
