Heather Watson vs Iryna Shymanovich Prediction, Picks, Odds, H2H, Stats - 4/1/25

Wildcard entrant Heather Watson will face qualifier Iryna Shymanovich in the opening round of the Charleston Open on Tuesday, and a clash with Jessica Pegula is in store for the winner of this affair.
A revitalized Heather Watson went 3 – 0 in Puerto Vallarta last week before falling in the semifinals against Linda Fruhvirtova.
Shymanovich was a win away from winning her first title of the 2024 campaign last week at Vacaria in Brazil (WTA50), and the line setters show no favoritism toward either player to win this first-round clash.
EJ Garr’s prediction for Heather Watson vs. Iryna Shymanovich features odds at +146, which you can find below.

We have a pick ‘em situation on our hands today at the Charleston Open, as the line setters don’t want to tip their hand as to who will come out on top of this first-round affair.
I have my pick in, and my money is on Shymanovich to take out Watson. Heather Watson finally put together a modest win streak last week at Puerto Vallarta, but that won’t stop me from fading the Brit in this spot.
Shymanovich is ranked 215th, and Watson starts the week ranked 182nd on the WTA Tour.
Watson’s three wins in Puerto Vallarta somewhat salvaged the poor start to the campaign, but the Brit is still only 4 – 6 this year and has to pick up the pace to begin clay season. This surface is a sore spot for Watson, who struggles in the dirt.
Watson has never produced a winning record on clay since turning pro, and went 1 – 4 in five matches on clay last season.
Shymanovich is 6 – 1 on the clay and was a set away from taking the Vacaria title last week in Brazil.
With the expectation of a three-set affair, let’s get a little ballsy and throw the +375 odds on Shymanovich to win this match 2 sets to 1. bet365 has the best line on that prop, and the +146 on the Over 2.5 sets has plenty of value behind it as well.
I simply don’t trust Watson on clay to get a win, but taking a set from Shymanovich shouldn’t be an issue as they go the distance.
HEATHER WATSON RECENT FORM
Heather Watson had lost 7 of her last 8 outings dating back to last season before reeling off three wins in Puerto Vallarta last week.
Watson has struggled on the clay, producing a 10 – 25 record on the dirt since the 2018 campaign. The Brit won only one match on clay out of five games last season.
IRYNA SHYMANOVICH RECENT FORM
Iryna Shymanovich has produced a 59 – 33 record on clay over the last 5 years, and is 6 – 1 on the dirt to open the 2025 campaign.
Shymanovich has two clay titles earned during the 2023 season, but has never won a match on grass in her career (0 – 3 the last two years).
WATSON VS SHYMANOVICH HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
Iryna Shymanovich defeated Heather Watson during the 2023 campaign at Stanford to win their only match on the WTA Tour.
The winner of this match will face top-seeded Jessica Pegula in the second round of the Charleston Open.
