Marcos Giron vs Miomir Kecmanovic Prediction: Giron in his Element at the 250 Level

  • Prediction: Giron to win
  • Best Odds: 1.87
  • Bookmaker: Unibet
  • Stakes: 2/10

Odds as at 6:30 am UK Time on February 14th, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Though I was ready to back Kecmanovic last round against a potentially injured Yoshihito Nishioka (who ended up withdrawing because he didn’t feel up to it physically), I tend to either oppose him or pass on his matches. I do think he strikes the ball pretty cleanly, but I think he needs more margin to his game if he ever wants to progress further and perhaps break into the top-25 at some point, more consistency on court is going to be necessary.

Giron can have the same issues with errors, but I don’t think he tries to hit into small targets to the same extent and he is more aggressive and probably possesses more power.

That allows him to make up for the errors a bit more easily.

I also think it tends to take stronger opposition than someone like Kecmanovic to send Giron packing. It’s why we’ve seen so many of his runs come at the 250 level – where the top players aren’t as commonplace in the draw and may not be as motivated to win the tournaments as much as they are during the big weeks with tournaments in more of a spotlight.

There are obviously still some poor losses on his record since the start of 2024, but I wouldn’t hold any of the losses in recent months against him.

Marcos Giron Recent Form

Going back to last season, Giron’s last five defeats have all come at the hands of players currently ranked inside the top-25, including a pair to Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev – the top two players by ranking in the world.

I’d like to see more routine wins from him, but he’s certainly been in decent form in recent times, bowing out early of tournaments almost exclusively when dealt a tough hand in terms of the draw.

His first match here wasn’t against an opponent Ethan Quinn – a promising prospect with big power, but who did struggle a bit this week – but he managed to control the match and never looked like he’d lose.

Barring a flurry of unforced errors or an incredible Kecmanovic performance, the match should be on the Giron racquet.

Miomir Kecmanovic Recent Form

The case can be made that Kecmanovic has also done a pretty good job of beating the guys he should beat and that it has taken a higher calibre of opponent to beat him.

Other than the first tournament of the year losing to Alexandre Muller from a set up (who ended up winning Hong Kong), it’s been a slew of top players that have sent Kecmanovic packing.

He too struggles at times to pick up straightforward wins and it’s because the way he plays tends to be more high-risk, high-reward.

He’ll likely have a bit of an advantage in backhand rallies, but I’m not sure what else I’d say he does better on court than Giron.

For that reason, I do think he should be the underdog in this matchup

Marcos Giron vs Miomir Kecmanovic H2H – Stat of the Match

These two have played on three occasions in the past. Giron does lead 2-1, but all three previous encounters have been fairly close.
