Ruse was favored at -115 against Polina Kudermetova in the first round and advanced after a three-set win. 

Magda Frech has struggled to find her game this season and has lost six of her last seven outings headed into Miami.

Gabriela Ruse has played a trio of three-set affairs this week at the Miami Open, all of which began in qualifying. Ruse went the distance against Mirjam Bjorkland and Ena Shibanara, and the Romanian lost the first set on both occasions.

In the first round, Ruse won the first set against Kudermetova but was still pushed to a third set before advancing to the second round.

Being ranked outside the top 100 hasn’t stopped the line setters from making Ruse favored to win, and 27th-ranked Magda Frech is listed as the underdog today. Rankings don’t tell much of the story here because Magda Frech is playing more like the one ranked closer to 100th.

Since Wuhan last October, Frech has had three wins from 14 appearances and two of those affairs went the distance. Even when she wins, she can’t keep a clean sheet against anyone lately, and Ruse can navigate her way to win one set, at least!

The folks at BetMGM have odds of -300 for Ruse to win a set and -250 for Frech to win a set in this match. 

Amazingly, I can only pray that Magdelena Frech can accomplish anything, so asking her to win a set might be the hardest request of the day.

Gabriela Ruse will be playing a fourth straight game in Miami that goes the distance, so cash in on the Over 2.5 sets with reasonable +129 odds. I will also put the -1 on the Romanian as a secondary bet for some action with -108 odds, expecting her to advance while reducing the -135 odds on the Moneyline.

Gabriela Ruse didn’t use any preparation tournaments before opening the campaign at the Australian Open. Ruse ranks off four wins at the first Major Tournament of the campaign and is 9 – 4 in 2025.

The Romanian native went 36 – 20 last season with a winning record on all three surfaces but hasn’t won a tournament since 2021. 

MAGDALENA FRECH RECENT FORM

Ugly! That’s the recent form for Frech who has dropped four straight outings and is 1 – 6 over the last seven matches dating back to the Australian Open.

Frech is 3 – 8 to begin the 2025 season, and six of those affairs have gone the distance.

The Polska native went 41 – 30 last season and reached 25th in the WTA Rankings.
