The second semifinal is the one the crowd should be buzzing for. A pair of Americans will battle for a spot in the U.S. Open final. Let’s look at Taylor Fritz vs Frances Tiafoe.

Tiafoe’s win probability is only 30%, while Fritz is favoured to win at 1.37 odds. The handicap is four games and the total games line is 40.5.

Taylor Fritz vs Frances Tiafoe Prediction

This match seemed like an intriguing spot for an over bet, but with the total set all the way at 40.5, I’m going to go ahead and pass.

I don’t think there are many things that would be better for the sport than to have Tiafoe play at this high of a level consistently, considering his blend of power, athleticism and charisma, but within matches he’s just far too volatile for me to trust him against someone like Fritz.

His first serve percentage can waver a bit too much and he commits far more undisciplined errors. Against someone who controls the baseline as well as Fritz does and who has really worked to patch up any holes he had in his game, I do think having the Californian as the big favourite here is warranted.

If this total was a tad lower I think backing Tiafoe to be competitive, but ultimately fall short a significant amount of the time would be a decent proposition to back, but I’m going to go ahead and just enjoy the theatrics on Arthur Ashe for this one come Friday night.

Taylor Fritz Recent Form

After years of bearing the brunt of expectations among American men’s tennis players and not being able to get past the quarterfinals, Fritz has finally cleared that hurdle, and is now a big favourite to go one step further on Friday.

He’s always been equipped with an elite serve and forehand combination, but the backhand and variety (as well as his relatively immobility) held him back.

He’s since solidified that backhand side (going toe-to-toe with Alexander Zverev in a best-of-five set match is no easy feat when your backhand doesn’t hold up) and mentioned in his on-court interview after his last match that to break up the monotonous patterns he’s even looking to add some dropshots and approaches to his game as well.

It’s paid dividends and he’s as close as ever both in the draw and in his well-rounded game to winning one of the biggest trophies in tennis.

Frances Tiafoe Recent Form

There’s nothing like home cooking. After an incredibly disappointing season, Tiafoe has looked much better since playing – and reaching the semifinals – at his hometown tournament in Washington, D.C.

After the semis there he went on to reach the Cincinnati final (a Masters 1000 event) and now he’s reached just his second semifinal at a grand slam (after the U.S. Open in 2022).

His game is absolutely electric and when he’s on, I’d go as far as to say he’s the most entertaining player there is in the sport.

If he can play at his best level, the crowd is in for a treat in this all-American tilt on Friday night.

Taylor Fritz vs Frances Tiafoe H2H – Stat of the Match

These two are well-acquainted with one another, having played going all the way back to childhood. At the professional level, however, it’s been one way traffic in favour of Fritz. He leads 6-1, with all matches having been played on hard courts.

I think the more well rounded and steady nature to Fritz’s game has given him the edge in the past and does once more on Friday night. I, for one, would love to see a close, exciting match though.
