It will be an All-American clash at the Australian Open as Emma Navarro and Peyton Stearns open their ledgers at the first Major Tournament of the 2025 campaign.

The biggest question on everyone’s mind is Emma Navarro’s confidence as the 8th-ranked player in the world.

Navarro is slightly favored to reach the second round at -125, but Peyton Stearns is eying an upset, so something will have to give.

EJ Garr’s prediction for Emma Navarro vs. Peyton Stearns calls for a match that goes the distance with odds at +130 which you can find below.

Emma Navarro vs Peyton Stearns WTA Australian Open Prediction: We’re Going The  Distance

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +130
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on January 13, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Where is Emma Navarro’s confidence coming into the Australian Open? Since the loss to Aryna Sabalaenka at the US Open, Navarro barely had the energy to finish the 2024 campaign.

Navarro pulled herself from the WTA Finals, and since that loss to Sabalenka, the American has been 3 – 5 and recently got dismantled by Samsonova at Adelaide last week. It all started to fall apart with that ugly loss to Shuai Zhang in Beijing after the US Open. Losses to Anna Blinkova and Magda Frech to complete the Asian swing last year didn’t do anything to help Navarro finish the year, and now we all have more questions than answers.

Peyton Stearns is very familiar with Navarro as the two have played four times over the last two seasons. Navarro is 4 – 0 in those meetings but two of those contests went the distance which I expect to happen today.

Stearns got a boost of confidence with the win against Maria Sakkari at Adelaide last week. Despite the loss to Badosa in the following stage, Stearns is making her second appearance at the Australian Open following up last year’s first-round loss to Daria Kasatkina.

The total for this match is 22.5, and unless there is a tie-break in one of the first two sets, it will be impossible to topple the over. The line setters have become stingy with the Over 2.5 sets prop and Pinnacle is posting the best odds at +130.

EMMA NAVARRO RECENT FORM

Emma Navarro is 3 – 6 over the last 9 outings dating back to the loss to Sabalaneka at the US Open. Navarro struggled with the length of the 2024 campaign and fell flat as the season was coming to a close.

Missing the WTA Finals was not a good way to finish the season and Navarro is 1 – 2 in 2025 with a win against Ekaterina Alenandrova at Adelaide.

Navarro was a -525 favorite against Kim Birrell at Brisbane and didn’t even win a set with a first-round exit to open the 2025 season.

Emma was 54 – 24 in 2024.

PEYTON STEARNS RECENT FORM

Peyton Stearns is 3 – 2 to start the 2025 campaign following up an average 25 – 23 record in the 2024 season.

Stearns had a 13 – 15 record on hardcourts a year ago and went 1 – 2 on grass for a second straight season in 2024.

NAVARRO VS STEARNS HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Emma Navarro is 4 – 0 against Peyton Stearns.

Navarro won their only meeting last year at Bad Homberg in straight sets and swept the 2023 campaign with three wins against Stearns.

All three meetings in 2023 were at or below the WTA100 level, and Stearns pushed Navarro to three sets in two of the three losses.
