Emma Navarro has cruised into the third round of the US Open and the American will face Marta Kostyuk on Friday as a slight favorite to reach the quarterfinals in New York.

Navarro hasn’t dropped more than one game in four sets at the last Major Tournament of the 2024 campaign. At -160, the expectations are on the New York native who was born just a few miles away from the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.

Marta Kostyuk will take on another American in New York after getting past McCartney Kessler in the first round but the Ukrainian native will be up against the line, the crowd, and a hot Emma Navarro/

Emma Navarro has won four sets in New York this week and each frame has ended 6 – 1 in straight sets. Navarro flew past Anna Blinkova in the opening round and made Arantxa Rus look like a fish out of water on Wednesday. 

Hump Day was the hottest day of the week here in New York but luckily we’re headed for some pleasant weather over the next 10 days leading to the final of the US Open. Emma had to deal with that heat on Wednesday but the World’s #12 was only on the court for 65 minutes against Rus.

I must admit I am surprised this line is so low and when I saw Pinnacle offering the -2 at -114 my first thought was why? At -160, Navarro should be more like -200 the way she is playing in New York so do the line setters expect this to be a tight match? 

I don’t envision Kostyuk having any more success in New York this week and that first set with Harriet Dart on Wednesday didn’t change my mind. The first set tie-break pushed Kostyuk to the limit early (12 – 10 in TB), although the Ukrainian finished the match strong with a 6 – 1 straight-sets win in the second round.

Marta will push Emma early as I see a 6 – 3 opening frame that eventually leads to Navarro moving on, so at -114 the -2 is fairly priced and worth the action.

Navarro is 4 – 1 in her last 5 outings and has reached the third round in all four Major Tournaments this campaign.

Emma hadn’t gotten out of the first round at the US Open until this season and a potential clash with Coco Gauff in the fourth round could be a tasty affair!

Navarro is 27 – 10 on hardcourts in 2024 and with a win today, the American will claim victory #50 this campaign. Emma will have a winning record on all three surfaces for the second straight season.

Kostyuk is also 4 – 1 in her last 5 outings with a loss to Iga Swiatek in Cincinnati in that run.

Marta is chasing her first 3-match win streak since the Olympics but is 7 – 3 during the North American swing since Paris.
