What else can you call what Iga Swiatek is doing at the Australian Open other than inspiring and impressive? The former World’s #1 wants her spot back in the rankings and dethroning Aryna Sabalenka will likely be the last objective for the Polska native at the first Major of the campaign.

We have seen something we have not before from Emma Navarro with some emotion on the court. Navarro is usually calm and reserved trying not to wear her heart on her sleeve but she has belted out a few outbursts this week and I like it! 

If you recall from last season, I wish that Emma would do more to get the crowd behind her, and getting boisterous with some fists in the air is a good way to get there. The crowds at Melbourne Park have been highly noticeable and can and will influence a match at this level.

The biggest problem I see for Navarro is the time spent on the court after playing four matches that have all gone the distance. While Navarro has spent that energy, Iga Swiatek has barely broken a sweat in the Australian heat this week.

Swiatek has beaten her last three opponents 36 – 4 and as much as I respect Emma for getting here the tournament ends today for the American. I am pointing to this total to stay under the 18 games expecting a 6 – 3, 6 – 1 win for the Polska native in straight sets.

Emma Navarro has played three sets in all four matches at the Australian Open and spent a lot of time on the court.

Navarro was 54 – 24 last year and finished the campaign with a winning record on all three surfaces, her second straight time achieving that accomplishment.

The American is 5 – 2 in 2025 with losses to Kim Birrell and Liudmila Samsonova.

Iga Swiatek was pushed to a 6 – 4, 6 – 3 result against Kat Siniakova in the first round and the former World’s #1 has been playing inspired tennis since. With a 36 – 4 game count in the last three matches, 

Swiatek is 8 – 1 in 2025 and is following up a 64 – 9 2024 campaign. The Polska native has been ranked in the top two for the last four years.
