Elise Mertens continues to enjoy success in Tunisia and the two-time defending champion of the Jasmin Open will take on Eva Lys on Thursday in the second round.

Elise Mertens is a perfect 11 – 0 in Monastir after the first-round win over Anastasia Zakharova, and the Belgian native fought through a stiff wind that drove both players bonkers on Tuesday.

Eva Lys got past Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets on Tuesday night and the German will be playing as a considerable underdog against the top-seeded Mertens.

EJ Garr’s Elise Mertens vs Eva Lys prediction calls for continued success for the two-time defending champ so check out his bet with +100 odds below.

Elise Mertens has yet to lose a match in Tunisia and the two-time defending champion stretched the win streak to 11 – 0 with the first-round win on Tuesday night in the North African nation. The wind was a major factor during the first-round match against Anastasia Zakharova and it was a battle to serve in those conditions.

Mertens and Zakharova were constantly tossing up balls that flew away from them trying to keep serves in the box and Mertens was the one who dealt with the conditions enough to progress with a straight-sets win at 2 and Love. Elise seems to like playing tennis in Africa having earned three titles on the Continent including hoisting the last two Jasmin Open trophies. (2018 Rabat title in Morocco)

Mertens is heavily favored to progress to the quarters with odds nearing -300 and the handicap line is listed at -4.5 games.

The 126th-ranked German native got past Lesia Tsurenko in the opening round because Tsurenko couldn’t keep her serve in check. With 9 doubles and a 55% first serve percentage, Eva Lys held her serve 80% of the time and broke the Ukrainian five times.

Elise Mertens is a big step up from Lesia Tsurenko and the Belgian knows how to win in Tunisia no matter the conditions. Instead of laying the -4.5 games handicap, I noticed the 2 – 0 sets prop is listed at even money on Mertens to take this match in straight sets. That’s sold!

ELISE MERTENS RECENT FORM

Elise Mertens is 11 – 0 in three years on Tunisian soil and the Belgian knows she is the biggest target in this event carrying the 1-seed as a two-time defending champ.

Mertens has a 3-year run of winning at least one tournament, which is in jeopardy unless the Belgian takes her third trophy at Monastir this week.

Elsie won 3 matches at the US Open leading to the trip to Tunisia, and a win over Madison Keys at the Major was a nice win that led to the loss to eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka.

Mertens is 16 – 12 on hardcourts this season carrying a record of 25 – 21 in 2024.

EVA LYS RECENT FORM

Eva Lys is ranked 126th on the WTA Tour nearly 100 spots behind Mertens (32).

Lys reached the first round at the US Open after three qualifying wins before the loss to Bouzkova in the Major, although she didn’t go away quietly in the three-set loss.

Lys is 8 – 4 on hardcourts and in a position to have a winning record on all three surfaces in 2024.

MERTENS VS LYS H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Elise Mertens and Eva Lys have never met on the WTA Tour.

The winner of this match will advance to face either Zeynep Sonmez or Greet Minnen in the quarterfinals.
