Titouan Droguet vs Pierre Hugues Herbert Prediction: Back Droguet in All-French Clash

  • Prediction: Droguet to win
  • Best Odds: 1.74
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 2/10

Odds as at 6:30 am UK Time on January 24th, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Like our preview for the match in Oeiras, this simply comes down to trusting the better player in a serve-oriented contest. I’ve gone with the moneyline this time though, because I do think that Droguet can be streaky and that can cost a potential handicap and these conditions are quicker, so two games here and in Oeiras aren’t exactly equal.

I prefer to back Droguet when he’s got a matchup against a mediocre player and when he’s in form. Well, Herbert has always been somewhat one dimensional and isn’t the player he once was.

Droguet has also finally found some form this week, with wins over August Holmgren and Mikhail Kukushkin – both players at their best in quicker conditions and on hard courts.

One always has to worry about a stinker from the younger of the two Frenchmen, but this price is still a generous one, even considering the potential for Droguet to play poorly.

Titouan Droguet Recent Form

The world No. 183, who was once just 30 spots off of the top-100 in the world rankings is a tough one to bet, with Droguet often showcasing some incredible talent on court and other times losing head-scratching like matches to players one would expect someone with his abilities to beat with relative ease.

For instance, we saw him lose to Gianluca Mager on a quick hard court in Nonthaburi prior to the Australian Open, before being sent packing in qualifying for the year’s first major by another clay-first player in Thiago Agustin Tirante.

Yet so far this week, he’s won two matches against strong players in quicker conditions and he’s done so without dropping a set through two rounds.

Droguet has a nice serve and forehand combination, can employ the backhand slice to keep himself in rallies when not on the front foot and if he can keep the unforced errors limited, he’s able to play close to a top-100 level.

Pierre Hugues Herbert Recent Form

After losing each of his opening matches of 2025 down in Australia as a favourite in disappointing fashion, Herbert has looked much better since returning to Europe and quick conditions indoors this week.

This is his third straight matchup against a countryman, after he sent Calvin Hemery and Ugo Blanchet packing in the opening two rounds.

I lost a personal wager on Blanchet in the second round opposing Herbert and I’m still not convinced by his form, as he takes on Droguet, who when playing well, has a very tough game to cope with.

I wouldn’t expect Herbert to see as many break chances in the quarterfinals as he did in the opening two rounds and if that’s the case, a lot of pressure will be on his strong, but somewhat declining serve.
