Let me start by saying that I don’t understand the 211 sitting next to Jil Teichmann’s name! This is another example that the WTA rankings mean nothing because Jil has played decent tennis this year.
I won’t waste too much time on that because a 23 – 6 record on clay deserves better. I completely understand the tournament-level entries that Teichmann has played this season leave plenty to be desired.
Teichmann has a WTA35 level tournament win as her only title in 2024, and you would think when you hit your prime at 27 years old that the Swiss native would be playing in bigger events. If not now in her career, it might never happen because life on tour in your 30s won’t be any easier.
Diane Parry is only listed at -130 to past Teichmann, and I see a handful of sites offering prices at -115 for Parry to reach the quarters. If Parry should be cruising to a win over lowly-ranked Jil Teichmann, shouldn’t that line look like -150 or better?
Parry needed three sets to get past 168th-ranked Olivia Gadecki in the first round, and the France native was posted at -185 yesterday. Now Parry is barely favored?
I am giving Teichmann enough credit to win a set today, and if Parry is supposed to win this match she’ll have to do it in three sets.
Parry and Teichmann are going the distance, and thanks to Pinnacle we have a +140 offer on the board to make good use of!
DIANE PARRY RECENT FORM
Diane Parry was 35 – 18 on clay last season but has only played 11 matches on the dirt this year holding a 5 – 6 record.
Parry is 22 – 17 this season and has reached 58th in the WTA rankings, and all six of her tournament wins are on clay dating back to 2020.
In an odd coincidence, even years seem to set Parry back. In 2021, Parry was 46 – 20 on the clay, and in 2023 the Swiss native was 35 – 18. In 2022, Diane was 7 – 9 on the dirt and this season is 5 – 6 so explain that, please?
JIL TEICHMANN FORM
I mentioned Jil’s 23 – 6 record on clay in 2024, and I am 100% aware that the level of opponents in the low-level tournaments is why her ranking won’t increase.
Still at 211 in the WTA rankings, Jil is 26 – 12 this season because of her record on clay and she could use a deep run in Italy to boost her status. Even a little would be nice because we have some women in the top 100 with bad records!
Teichmann was the 2019 title holder here in Palermo, and we can always expect a bit more effort from anyone who has won a title at a previous event.
PARRY VS TEICHMANN HTH – STAT OF THE MATCH
On any surface, this will be the first meeting between Diane Parry and Jil Teichmann.
The winner of this affair will play either Chloe Paquet or Maria Carle in the quarterfinals of the Palermo Ladies Open.
