I have to admit that Diane Parry got me yesterday. After dropping the first set against Erika Andreeva, the France native showed some Moxey turning the second-set tie-break win into a third-set beatdown at 6 – 1 to advance.
Le Mademoiselle is again listed as an underdog although the price at +105 isn’t pointing to a lopsided affair.
Let’s be honest and recognize that either woman is playing consistent tennis. That’s why they are both ranked outside the top 50. Parry is hanging on to the 52nd spot in the WTA rankings and Minnen is five spots from dropping out of the top 100 at 95th.
With Parry needing a win to keep that top 50 status and Minnen needing a win to stay in the top 100, I see this match as a battle that will go the distance. Not that the rankings tell us much but those numbers are on their minds because these milestones are attached to your name.
Greet was a +160 underdog against wild card Bianca Andreescu and that line made no sense to anyone betting on tennis. Minnen only lost three games in a straight-sets rout against the Canadian native with a 6 – 0 final frame adding to the insult!
Now the Belgian will be favored to reach the Japan Women’s Open quarterfinal, but Parry isn’t going out this event quietly. I see the match Over 2.5 Sets so bank the +140 offer from Pinnacle who offers the best line on the market.
DIANE PARRY RECENT FORM
Parry carries the 7-seed in the Japan Women’s Open and upset 70th-ranked Erika Andreeva in three sets to reach the second round.
Diane is 4 – 5 since the beginning of the North American swing in August and hasn’t won more than three matches in any event during the 2024 campaign.
Parry is 16 – 12 on hard courts and with a 29 – 24 record could produce a winning season for the third time in four years.
GREET MINNEN RECENT FORM
Greet Minnen has also failed to win more than three matches at any event during the 2024 season.
After a 56 – 19 2023 campaign, Minnen has produced a losing record on clay and hard courts this year with a 26 – 30 record.
Minnen has posted a losing record in 2022 and 2020 and winning records in odd years which no one can explain.
PARRY VS MINNEN H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Greet Minnen won the only meeting with Diane Parry in a match played in Guangzhou, China last season. Parry was a +220 underdog and got swept by the Belgian in straight sets at 2 and 2.
