Diana Shnaider and Yue Yuan will meet for the second time this tennis season when they battle in the first round of the Libema Open. Yuan is 2 – 0 against Shnaider and is listed as the slight underdog for this WTA-250 clash in the upper bracket. Ej’s Diana Shnaider vs Yue Yuan prediction can be found below with odds at -111.

The first round of play at Hertogenbosch was interrupted by some inclement weather in the Netherlands on Monday so keep an eye on the schedule for any changes.

Yue Yuan finished the clay season with five straight losses, and Diana Shnaider is out to add a third trophy to her mantle in 2024 after another successful clay campaign.

SHNAIDER VS YUAN PREDICTION: SHNAIDER PLAYING THE FAVORITE ROLE

  • Prediction: Diana Shnaider -1.5 Games Handicap
  • Best Odds: -111
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time June 11, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Yue Yuan and Diana Shnaider have given us three-set matches from both of their meetings on the WTA Tour, although this is the first meeting on grass.

Despite Yuan being 2 – 0 against Shnaider, the line setters are placing the Russian native as the favorite for this first-round affair in the Netherlands.

Shnaider has little experience on the grass having only played four matches on this surface in her career. Diana has only competed in three Wimbledon Majors on grass making this the first tournament played on grass outside of the UK.

Shnaider is only 20 years old and after her Paris Challenger win on clay her ranking jumped to a career-high 48th on the WTA Tour. Yue Yuan is ten spots ahead of her on the rankings board, but the Chinese native only has 12 games of experience on grass to her credit.

Yuan ran off a 17 – 7 record on hard courts and then struggled on the dirt losing 5 of 7 matches on clay. After a 2 – 0 start, Yuan is out to shake a 5-match losing skid playing her first match on grass in 2024.

While both players lack experience on grass, Shnaider has that Paris Challenger title run and a 9 – 4 clay record entering Hertogenbosch. I am hoping that confidence can carry over into the grass swing of the season so I am suggesting the -1.5 Games Handicap instead of the Moneyline on Shnaider.

Shnaider’s odds to win at -140 don’t float my boat, so to get the -110 on the -1.5 Games works for me. Winning the match alone should be enough to cover that spread for the Russian native to advance to the second round.

DIANA SHNAIDER RECENT FORM

Shnaider has a hard court and a clay court title this season, and she has 7 trophies on her mantle in search of number 8 in Hertogenbosch. A run to the title might be unlikely but a first-round win over Yue Yuan is the first step to get near the Libema hardware.

Shnaider won the Paris Challenger title but doesn’t have much time on grass in her career. She has competed at Wimbledon three times and has only one win for the effort.

YUE YUAN RECENT FORM

Yue Yuan has reached a career-high 38th in the WTA Rankings, although she is 7 – 5 in 12 grasscourt matches.

Yuan finished the clay swing with five straight losses and is playing her first match on grass in 2024 on Tuesday.

SHNAIDER VS YUAN H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Yue Yuan has defeated Diana Shnaider twice in two meetings, and one of those affairs happened early in the season at Hobart, Australia.

Yuan won that match in three sets, and their first clash in Las Vegas also went three sets in 2022.
