Destanee Aiava is playing in the second round of a Major Tournament for the first time and the Australian native will be a heavy underdog against American Danielle Collins.

Collins is favored at -500 to advance to the third round of the Australian Open but the American has struggled with consistency and knows she is in for a battle.

Aiava is making her 20th Major Tournament appearance this week at Melbourne Park and is motivated to prove she shouldn’t be taken lightly as a huge underdog.

EJ Garr’s prediction for Destanee Aiava vs Danielle Collins features odds at -110 which you can find below.

Destanee Aiava vs Danielle Collins Australian Open Prediction: Aussie The Big Underdog At Home

  • Prediction: Destanee Aiava +5 Games
  • Best Odds: -110
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on January 14, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Danielle Collins is expected to cruise past Destanee Aiava into the third round of the Australian Open and -500 odds are quite the statement from the oddsmakers.

The 24-year-old Melbourne native is playing the best tennis of her career entering the first Major Tournament of the 2025 campaign. Aiava is riding a 9-match win streak into the second round and is 4 – 0 at Melbourne Park after a trio of qualifying wins to reach the main draw.

Ranked 195th to start the week, Aiava is slowly gaining confidence and is facing a huge test against Collins who sits just outside the top 10 of the WTA Rankings (11).

The disparity in the rankings means nothing to me because momentum and confidence can greatly affect a player’s mindset. Aiava has what Collins doesn’t and that is the right mindset for a Major Tournament.

Dani Collins finished the 2024 campaign with five straight losses dating back to the Olympics. Can we please review the list of players who handed Collins the defeats?

After being unable to finish the Olympics against Swiatek with an injury, Collins lost to Erika Andreeva, Carolina Dolehide, Olivia Gadecki, and Rebecca Sramkova to finish the 2024 season. Those are not names that should give Collins trouble, much less pull off the upsets and the loss to Ons Jabeur to open the 2025 campaign last week at Adelaide.

Aiava covers the +5 and will give Collins a match!

DESTANEE AIAVA RECENT FORM

Destanee Aiava brings a 9-game win streak into this match and being an underdog does not affect the 24-year-old Aussie native.

Aiava went 5 – 0 at Brisbane to open the 2025 campaign with a tourney win and despite playing in lower-tier events the Aussie native went 41 – 25 completing a second straight campaign with 40+ victories.

This is Aiava’s moment to prove she can be taken seriously on the WTA Tour and a good showing against Collins will go a long way as 2025 unfolds.

DANIELE COLLINS RECENT FORM

Daniell Collins lost six straight outings to end the 2024 campaign and open 2025 but the American is still listed near the top 10 of the WTA Rankings.

Does she deserve it? That will be proven this week, although a potential third-round match with Madison Keys is likely on deck for whoever takes this win.

Collins finished 2024 with a career-high 42 wins and the 19 – 5 record on clay came as quite a surprise. The American native was 20 – 10 on hard courts last season and finished the season in ugly fashion losing the last 5 outings of the campaign.

AIAVA VS COLLINS HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Destanee Aiava and Danielle Collins are meeting for the first time today at the Australian Open.
