Darja Semenistaja will be facing Mona Barthel in the last Round of 16 affair at the Montreux Challenger on Friday before we reach the quarterfinal of the WTA125 event in Switzerland.

The Latvian native finds herself slightly favored at -125 to get past Barthel on the Swiss clay as she was against Zavatska in the opening round.

This will be the second meeting between these two ladies and Barthel hopes to make it through the match which she couldn’t do in the previous encounter.

EJ Garr’s Darja Semenistaja vs Mona Barthel prediction leans on the Latvian to advance so check out his tip with odds at -108.

Darja Semenistaja vs Mona Barthel WTA Montreux Challenger Prediction: Latvian Eyes Quarterfinal Appearance

  • Prediction: Darja Semenistaja -1 Game Handicap
  • Best Odds: -108
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on September 6, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Darja Semenistaja is favored for the second time at the Montreux Challenger this week and passed the first test against Zavatska in the opening round. After an easy first-set win, Semenistaja gave a setback to Zavatska before earning the win in three sets and the Latvian is listed at -125 as she was in the first round.

Instead of settling for the price on the Latvian to progress, I am turning to the handicap because Pinnacle is showing -108 on the -1 saving us a few bucks.

Semenistaja already knows she can handle Barthel from their meeting last year and I expect a similar result on Friday on the Switzerland clay. Ranked 134th on the WTA Tour, Darja isn’t playing her best tennis but neither is Barthel.

Putting together wins for either woman has been a chore and we haven’t seen either of them put a win streak together of more than two games since May! This is a coin-flip call because no one knows what we’ll get from these two today.

Barthel is ranked 176th coming into this event and the 34-year-old German native will likely finish the campaign without a title.

Semenistaja is winning tournaments despite the level of competition and the 21-year-old has claimed 16 titles in the last four seasons.

I’ll take the favored Latvian and the -1 to the bank and expect to see Semenistaja in the quarters of the Montreux Challenger.

DARJA SEMENISTAJA RECENT FORM

Darja Semenistaja might not be a household name yet but another run to a title in Switzerland could change the narrative.

With an 84 – 40 record on clay over the last four campaigns, the Latvian is taking advantage of the lower-tier events but that will all change soon. Semenistaja will likely jump to the WTA Tour soon and winning these matches as a favorite is building more confidence with each outing.

MONA BARTHEL RECENT FORM

Mona Barthel is ranked 176th and the German native hadn’t broken into the top 200 in four years until May. Keeping that position is another story and a loss today will likely see that number fall further back.

Barthel is 18 – 12 on clay this season to follow up a horrific campaign on the dirt last year (3 – 10). Don’t ask Mona to play on the grass because she can’t (0 – 8 since 2018).

The German is 18 – 12 on clay this campaign and has a 29 – 20 record overall.

SEMENISTAJA VS BARTHEL HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

This is the second meeting between Semenistaja and Barthel. Last season at Valencia Semenistaja was handling her business up a set and 3 games to 1 in the second frame before Barthel retired from the match.
