As much as I think Cornut Chauvinc has improved in his years playing college tennis in the United States, I do think making him the favourite against someone as talented as Molleker is a bit much.
These two both have decent serves that can play up indoors and strong forehands, but there are weaknesses to both games too.
For the German, it’s the timing of hard courts that often sees him rushed from the baseline and without the ability to play higher-margin defensive tennis, he can often be forced into errors. For Cornut Chauvinc? It’s the backhand. As admirable as his ability to approach is, or his methodical approach to working the court with his forehand are, his backhand is far too loopy and attackable and his slice doesn’t stay nearly low enough, making it a prime target for opponents to punish.
This also plays into Molleker’s hands, as that backhand simply can’t rush him and should help him keep his error count down.

Antoine Cornut Chauvinc Recent Form
The 24-year-old didn’t play a whole lot on the professional tour last year, but when he did, he fared pretty well indoors. That was primarily at the lower ITF Tour level, however, where success isn’t quite as hard to come by.
The key for him in this match will be how many first serves he can land. That is a legitimate weapon and could trouble the more clay-oriented Molleker. The rest of his game, however, is susceptible to being pushed around.
I’ve seen an improvement in his game from a few years ago, but I’m not sure it’s enough to warrant being priced as a favourite against a regular Challenger Tour competitor.
Rudolf Molleker Recent Form
After a tough 2024 season that saw Molleker stay just inside the top-300, he’s elected to open his 2025 campaign trying to build some momentum as the top-250 players headed down under to play in the Australian Open or its qualifying draw. It’s worked so far, as Molleker has won a pair of matches without dropping a set, against some decent competition. They may not have been the best opponents, but keep in mind, finding quality opponents in Europe in January is tough when most quality players are down in Australia.
Molleker has a really big game, but even at 24 years old, he’s really struggled to harness it.
This could be a decent matchup for him against a player who doesn’t have the biggest baseline weapons and if he can direct most of his powerful groundstrokes to the Cornut Chauvinc backhand, he should find plenty of success.
Antoine Cornut Chauvinc H2H – Stat of the Match
Molleker has the lone head-to-head win in this series, but that comes with a gigantic caveat. Not only was that only a singular data point, but it’s one that came from a match six years ago and on clay courts. Not exactly relevant.
