First preview of the day on the ATP Tour comes from the Francisco Comesana vs Martin Klizan match at the Tirian Open in Bucharest, Romania.

Klizan’s win probability is only 29%, while Comesana is the big favourite to win at 1.33 odds. The handicap is four games and the total games line is 21.5.

Jon Reid’s Last name vs Last name prediction is for Comesana to cover the handicap.

Francisco Comesana vs Martin Klizan Prediction: Oppose Veteran Off Tough Qualifying Campaign

  • Prediction: Comesana -4 Games
  • Best Odds: 1.89
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 4/10

Odds as at 3:45 am UK Time on April 1st, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Fairly easy handicap for this contest. First and foremost, we have an ascending young player on his best surface who has an underrated serve, plays a very consistent style and moves pretty well around the court.

Then there’s the fact that Klizan isn’t close to the player he once was, is not the best at present in physical matches and is coming off five hours on court in the last two days to qualify for the main draw, doing so against talented but imperfect opponents.

I think this handicap would be fine if we were evaluating these two and their games in slow clay court conditions without any other factors. Klizan and his firepower can still find holds of serve in slower conditions to keep things somewhat close from time to time.

I think the market is missing out on the fact that not only is Comesana probably a few breaks of serve better than Klizan at present on clay courts on a good day for the veteran, but that as the match progresses it becomes more and more likely that he pulls away from the Czech and is able to put up a lopsided set score that helps a four game handicap cross the finish line.

Francisco Comesana Recent Form

Already with 10 clay matches to date thanks to the Golden Swing earlier in the season, Comesana continues to build his resume on the main tour. He may not be the most powerful player out there, but he has consistently only lost to legitimately tough players on the dirt and rarely does so in embarrassing fashion.

He also has a few nice wins to his name this year on the red stuff, beating Alexander Zverev and Nicolas Jarry in Brazil back in February.

Typical clay style for the now world No. 64, who moves the ball around the court beautifully, can hit harder and heavier than many realize and doesn’t shy away from 2.5-3 hour marathon like matches when he’s being played tough.

I’m excited to see how much more he can develop and where he ends up by the end of the 2025 season.

Martin Klizan Recent Form

The former top-25 lefty with a big game (now outside the top-300) stepped back onto the court in February on the ITF circuit and now has six wins under his belt for the year across multiple levels of the sport.

He qualified into the main draw here with a pair of three set wins against some young players who still have some holes in their games and error prone tendencies and as impressive as that was, as I mentioned above, it also means he’s spent a decent amount of time on court.

This is a different matchup for the 35-year-old, who is going to have to work harder for his points and won’t have nearly as many points handed to him.

With his time on court already at five hours and this being his third consecutive day in action, I’m more than happy to see if he can back up those qualifying matches against the best opponent he’s played yet. If he can, then take my money.

Francisco Comesana vs Martin Klizan H2H – Stat of the Match

The time where Klizan was a competitive professional at this level long predates Comesana and his rise to the main circuit on clay courts. Thus, it’s no surprise that this will be the first meeting between the two.
