Chloe Paquet and Barbora Palicova haven’t met since the 2023 Australian Open, and the underdog in this affair has already defeated the French favorite once before.

That was only a qualifying match to reach the main draw of the Major Tournament, and Palicova swept the favored Paquet out of the event. History won’t help Palicova today, but it will give the Czech native a positive mindset approaching this second-round affair.

Pinnacle is showing -116 as I hand this article in, but I hope that line holds come the morning. I have a sense the line setters will boost Le Mademoiselle to -3.5 to advance, but I can’t see into the future. 

The Czech Republic native was held to four wins from 12 hardcourt appearances, and finally won a clay outing with the first-round win against unranked Andrea Palazon on Monday.

It would be tough to convince you that Palicova could cover the bed with a blanket, but let’s talk about Chloe Paquet and the season she is having!

Miserable! Or shall I say, Les Misérables! Putting faith in Paquet to be overly successful is a risky proposition. I think this match could go three sets, and the line setters are pointing to the possibility with a mere +125 on the Over 2.5 sets prop.

Give me Palicova to keep the match close and cover the +3 games against the favorite who needs to earn that right! Being favored doesn’t make Paquet the better player, as proven by their first meeting.

Chloe Paquet is ranked 118th on the WTA Tour, and has a 6 – 12 record in 2025.

Paquet went 1 – 9 on hardcourts before the clay swing, and is 5 – 3 on the dirt. The French native went 21 – 19 on clay last season earning a fourth straight season with a winning record on the dirt.

BARBORA PALICOVA RECENT FORM

Barbora Palicova is ranked 214th on the WTA Tour, and the 22-year-old Czech Reppublic native went 4 – 8 on hardcourts before starting the clay season. 

Palcova produced her career-best 52 – 29 record last season, and went 25 – 15 on clay winning two titles on this surface.
