For our first preview of the new week, we’re still looking at the ATP singles draw from the BNP Paribas Open as we enter the second week and business end of the tournament.

Van de Zandschulp’s win probability is only 50%, with Cerundolo the favourite to win at 1.86 odds. The handicap is 0.5 games and the total games line is 22.5.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Botic van de Zandschulp Prediction: Oppose Dutchman Off Win Against Djokovic

  • Prediction: Cerundolo to win
  • Best Odds: 1.86
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as at 2:15 am UK Time on March 10th, 2025. Odds may now differ.

I’m not the most keen to back Cerundolo with how frustratingly erratic he can be, but I think he was undervalued last round (despite not waking up until the third set) and that we’re now also seeing van de Zandschulp a tad overvalued thanks to a win against Novak Djokovic, who clearly isn’t near his best physically.

I do think that the Argentine is in better form, is the better player and though van de Zandschulp is a kind of all-court player, he’s the lesser of the two on slower courts.

Cerundolo’s record on hard courts may not be great on the whole, but a lot of that is due to the fact that he’s struggled against some of the top players. This is a solid price for someone that should be a favourite.

Francisco Cerundolo Recent Form

His first match here wasn’t pretty, but it’s hard to hold his general form in recent times against Cerundolo.

He was fine in South America, making a final in Buenos Aires, quarterfinal in Rio de Janeiro and then a semifinal in Santiago. There were a lot of three setters along the way, but his ability did come through more often than not.

Those tournaments were also on clay, but it’s important to note that Indian Wells is playing incredibly slowly and the higher bounce makes these courts at least somewhat comparable to red dirt.

The backhand is going to have to be a bit better than it was last round, but even with that as a potential weakness, he’s not alone in this match in being poor from time to time off that wing.

Botic van de Zandschulp Recent Form

Though van de Zandschulp had that upset in the last round against Djokovic, it hasn’t been a great year for van de Zandschulp. He began 2025 with five straight losses and this is the first time he’s reached the third round of any tournament this season. What’s more, he was actually out in qualifying and only got into the main draw as a lucky loser.

His backhand has let him down far too often in the last year and he doesn’t generate quite enough pace on the serve or forehand to find cheap points to make up for those mistakes.

With his two wins this week both against people who aren’t close to being fit, I’m not putting all that much stock in either victory.
