Celine Naef was originally slated to play Clare Burel in the first round, but Burel pulled her name from the competition and landed a match with Oceane Dodin to open Le Open de Limoges. Dodin’s first-round opponent was also shifted after Viktorija Golubic withdrew from the tournament, and Naef made the most of it.

Celine Naef quickly dismantled Dodin at 3 and 1 and defeated the French native a second time in the last three outings and is likely happy to avoid Burel. Burel knocked Naef out of the first round at the Angers Challenger so the rematch was avoided.

Sara Saito started the week ranked 156th on the WTA Tour and made a massive jump from 356th to begin the campaign. The 18-year-old Japan native has a 6 – 8  record over the last 14 outings.

Saito posted a stellar record on clay of 13 – 4 and is 30 – 18 this season on hard courts.

Despite a 6 – 1 record that included a title on grass in 2023, Saito didn’t take on any grass court events in 2024.
