I sense a thrilling quarterfinal as Celine Naef and Erika Andreeva clash at Le Open de Limoges with a spot in the semifinals at stake. 

Despite being ranked 181st on the WTA Tour, the Swiss native is favored against 79th-ranked Andreeva adding to words I have said before. 

Rankings, Shmankings! (Don’t try to auto-correct me! HA) No, it’s not a real word but it’s my take on why the rankings hold no weight in factoring winners and losers of tennis matches.

I hope you enjoyed my call on Celine Naef vs. Sara Saito yesterday. We indeed made the easiest bet of the week with the 2 – 0 sweep of the Japan native. The under flew in with it, and as I mentioned, that is now 13 straight outings for Naef without seeing a three-set outing.

That will all end today because Andreeva will challenge Naef despite the result against Kathrinka von Deichmann in the second round. The 177th-ranked Liechtenstein native pushed Andreeva to three sets after dropping the first frame. Andreeva’s serve was a disaster in the second set getting broken twice and then the final frame was full of breaks and bad tennis between them.

I hope Andreeva doesn’t fold like a lawn chair because she tends to fall apart when we have confidence in her game. Putting faith in the Andreeva sisters is not easy but I only need her to win a set before Celine Naef takes her out of the event.

The 19-year-old Swiss native improved to 33 – 15 on hard courts with the second-round win against Saito on Thursday and is two victories away from matching the 39 victories from 2023.

Erika Andreeva hasn’t had an easy time this week being pushed by Ipek Oz and Kathink von Deichmann. Andreeva was a -500 favorite against Deichmann and didn’t come close to covering the -5.5 handicap (14 – 12).

Andreeva was 0 – 3 leading into Le Open de Limoges and hasn’t looked confident in either match despite reaching the quarters.

Andreeva is 38 – 28 this year and will have a doubles outing hours after this quarterfinal.
