Beatriz is moving on to the quarterfinal of the US Open and a $530,000 paycheck will be waiting for her upon her arrival. Section 3 of the Main Draw will never be dubbed the Section of Death but Beatriz just provided a nice upset in the third round at +175.

Haddad Maia let a 6 – 1 opening set lead evaporate into a loss in the finals against McCartney Stearns in Cleveland but is 7 – 1 in her last 8 matches including three wins in New York last week.

Beatriz is 16 – 12 on hardcourts this season and a run of four straight campaigns with at least one tourney win is in jeopardy.
