Caroline Garcia vs Ena Shibahara Prediction, Picks, Odds, H2H, Stats - 9/12/24
Qualifier Ena Shibahara will face the 4-seed at the Guadalajara Open on Thursday as Caroline Garcia takes the court for the first time in Mexico.
Garcia earned a first-round bye as the 4-seed but the Mademoiselle hasn’t been in her best form lately as she tries to shake off a 3-match losing skid.
Shibahara is 3 – 0 this week in Mexico and the 169th-ranked Japanese native will play this match as the underdog with Garcia favored at -160 to progress to the quarterfinals.
EJ Garr’s Caroline Garcia vs Ena Shibahara prediction calls for a potential upset of the favorite so check out his tip at -106 odds below.

Caroline Garcia might be carrying the 4-seed in Mexico this week but it will not help her play better tennis! This is another example of the rankings having no significance as the 30th-ranked Garcia takes on 169th-ranked Shibarhara and the France native is only listed at -170 to advance.
I was hoping to get a decent price on the +3 with Shibahara but I don’t think we’ll need that half-game because Caroline Garcia has zero confidence right now.
Pinnacle is offering +145 odds on the Japanese native to get past Garcia and that line is tempting because I think Caroline is running out of game. How Garcia is still ranked 30th on the WTA Tour is beyond all of us who watch this sport!
Let’s talk about the four losses over Garcia’s last 5 outings. Sofia Kenin, Bernarda Pera, Jacqui Cristian, and Renate Zarazua should not be taking Garcia out of tournaments and that’s exactly what’s happened lately. Anyone ranked in the top 50 should be easing through those names and Garcia can’t even get that done right now.
Shibahara Moneyline is worth the chance but I still want to put the +2.5 games in my pocket on the Japanese native in this spot just in case. If the +3 wasn’t -135 I might venture toward that but we don’t drink juice of that nature!
I expect Garcia to fold like a lawn chair and I’ll gladly keep the +2.5 handicap on the board with Shibahara.
CAROLINE GARCIA RECENT FORM
Caroline Garcia is 1 – 4 in her last 5 outings and I mentioned the list of players that have stumped the former World’s #4.
Garcia hasn’t won back-to-back matches since April and with a 16 – 16 record this season there is so much room to improve!
ENA SHIBAHARA RECENT FORM
Shibahara has a 7 – 1 record in her last 8 outings and is 3 – 0 this week In Mexico.
Garcia posted last week that she and Bertrand Perret have gone their separate ways after three years together. The former coach has had a turbulent relationship with Garcia as she starts over but time is running out.
Is next year the final season for Garcia? Time will tell.
GARCIA VS SHIBAHARA H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
This will be the first meeting between Garcia and Shibahara on any surface.
The winner of this match will advance to face Lucrezia Stafanini or Marie Bouzkova in the quarterfinals of the Guadalajara Open.
