Our second preview of the day comes from the Anna Blinkova vs Varvara Lepchenko at the WTA 125K Open BLS de Limoges.

Lepchenko’s win probability is only 25%, while Blinkova is the heavy favourite at 1.22 odds. The handicap is five games and the total games line is 20.

Jon Reid’s Blinkova vs Lepchenko prediction is for Lepchenko to keep things close once more as an underdog.

Anna Blinkova vs Varvara Lepchenko Prediction: Tricky Lefty a Tad Undervalued

  • Prediction: Lepchenko +1.5 Sets & Lepchenko +5 Games
  • Best Odds: 2.12 & 1.91
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 1/10 & 1/10

Odds as at 3:15 am UK Time on December 12th, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Though I am a little concerned about the potential accumulated of the season and the last two weeks for the 38-year-old, the southpaw with an awkward style that can be tough to deal with has done a solid job of ending her season strong.

In her three wins the last two weeks, Lepchenko has saved an incredible number of break points, and though I do believe much of that comes down to variance, there’s also something to be said for her left-handed serve out wide on the AD side (where break points are played) hounding the backhand side of her right-handed opposition.

Blinkova is a much better player than anyone she’s come up against in the last few weeks in Angers or Limoges, but she’s also a volatile player when it comes to her hitting and her backhand is her weakness.

I’m siding with the underdog here, who has managed to push even Dominika Salkova, the one player who has managed to defeat her in France the last few weeks.

Anna Blinkova Recent Form

Ranked inside the top-75 entering this week, Blinkova is back in Limoges looking to defend her semifinalist points from a year ago and maintain that ranking that she boosted in recent months.

It had been an awful 2024 season for her, until the fall when she went on a tear through tournaments in Hong Kong and Mexico.

The French Championships didn’t go all that well, but it’s hard to see the motivation there for her and I don’t put any stock into those types of exhibitions.

For me, it’s not a question of whether she’ll win, it’s just a matter of winning by margin against a strong veteran in conditions that she enjoys playing in. If Blinkova’s backhand can hold up, then she should be alright. That’s never a given with her though.

Varvara Lepchenko Recent Form

I mentioned her form the last few weeks earlier. She’s 3-1 so far in France, but in those three victories, she managed to save 90% of the break points she faced.

I still believe part of that is down to some good luck, but there is something to be said for her AD side serves out wide, and that could once again come into play here.

With the five-game head start we’re receiving, a few saved break points turning into service holds could very well be the difference between her covering this handicap and not doing so or winning a set or losing in straight sets.

Anna Blinkova vs Varvara Lepchenko H2H – Stat of the Match

These two played earlier in the year in Tampico. Blinkova won that match 6-2, 6-4, which would’ve covered the five games, but indoors and on a faster court, the American may be a bit more comfortable and keep things a bit tighter.
