Does that say Belinda Bencic? At a challenger event in France?

It sure does and after a year away from the WTA Tour Belinda Bencic is now a mom looking to make a comeback while preparing for the 2025 campaign.

Bencic was ranked 8th in 2019 and reached 4th during the COVID-19 2020 pandemic campaign.  The 2023 season ended in October for Bencic and she ranked 17th before taking the leave of absence. Seeing the 907 attached to Bencic’s ranking will change as soon as she lifts the Angers Challenger trophy on Sunday. 

I said that, and we will be talking about Bencic all week around here so be prepared for more from the Swiss native.

The line setters see an easy path for Bencic to the second-round placing the chalk at -450 to get past Tig. That is quite a disrespectful line and the handicap comes in at -5.5 games on the Bencic handicap. 

This was a debate on the handicap or the total, but 19.5 games still leave us some wiggle room if we see a 6 – 4, 6 – 3 finish. Bencic to sweep Tig has ugly odds of -160 and that doesn’t leave enough meat on the bone to fancy a wager on the 2 – 0 correct sets prop.

Patricia Tig is about to get outclassed and overwhelmed as Bencic plows her way through this event and the Under 19.5 total will be a cashed ticket!

Belinda Bencic is 4 – 1 since returning from giving childbirth and after a year away from the game, the Swiss native is eyeing the 2025 campaign. Bencic has made it clear that being a mom and making room for her career is going to happen and she is appearing in these low-level events because that’s the only way to get real action.

Bencic would normally be off and preparing for next year like the rest of the WTA Tour but this gives her a perfect opportunity to get back in shape by playing competitive tennis.

The 27-year-old Swiss native is still in the prime of her career and getting back the mental game will be just as important as getting in physical shape. 

PATRICIA TIG RECENT FORM

Patricia Tig enters the week ranked 245th and is 7 – 4 over the last 11 outings. Tig is 65 – 18 this year but most of her success has come on clay. With a 53 – 12 record on the dirt, Tig ia 12 – 6 on hard courts as we play this indoor Angers Challenger on the surface.

If this match were being played on clay, Bencic might not be favored as strongly and Tig would much rather meet anyone on the dirt.

Tig was 6 – 15 on hard courts from 2021 through 2023 and produced two losing campaigns over the three seasons.
