We have arrived at the quarterfinal stage of the Ningbo Open and a featured match between Beatriz Haddad Maia and Paula Badosa will land one of them in the semifinal of this WTA500 event in China.
The Spaniard arrives as a big favorite with odds climbing over -200 and the 8-seed is expected to get past 6-seeded Haddad Maia into the semis.
Badosa has dropped the first set in two matches at the Ningbo Open and needed a big effort to get past 98th-ranked Xiyu Wang in the second round.
EJ Garr’s player’s prediction leans on the total listed at 21.5 and you can find his offer with -109 odds below.

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Paula Badosa Prediction: Avoiding A Slow Start The Key
- Prediction: Match Total Over 21.5 Games
- Best Odds: -109
- Bookmaker: Unibet
- Stakes: 3/10
Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on October 18, 2024.
Haddad Maia started this WTA500 event in the second round and faced Katie Boulter as a -180 favorite. After being pushed to a first-set tie-break against the English #1, Haddad Maia had to win seven games in the second set and was pushed to her limit.
Haddad Maia’s service game was in check only being broken once in the second set, although neither she nor Boulter suffered a break in the opening frame until they went point-by-point to settle the difference.
Beatriz is in an interesting position regarding the season-ending WTA Finals which I discussed yesterday in my Kasatkina vs. Putintseva article. I will have three of the four quarterfinal matches covered for you today so please look for them all.
Paula Badosa has come out flat in both matches this week in China. After dropping the first set to Diana Shnaider in the opening round, Ziyu Wang won the first-set tie-break with Badosa in the second round.
Badosa righted the ship and showed no signs of slowing down as she took out Wang at 1 and 2 on the final two frames.
I can see this first set getting wild and the Over 9.5 Games in the opening frame is listed at +110. The Over 10.5 Games total is +305 and I hope they get there with my main play on the total to topple the 21.5 Games.
BEATRIZ HADDAD MAIA RECENT FORM
Haddad Maia is 8 – 2 during the Asian swing and secured the tourney win in Seoul to kick off the show. Beatriz is 12 – 3 in the last 15 outings dating back to the US Open.
Haddad Maia is ranked 10th on the WTA Tour and is still in contention for the WTA Finals. With the status of Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, and Emma Navarro all in doubt, a spot could be waiting for the Brazilian with a strong finish to the campaign.
The monkey wrench in all of that is Barbora Krejcikova. With the Wimbledon win and being placed in the top 20, Krejcikova will hold the 8th position at the WTA Finals no matter what.
PAULA BADOSA RECENT FORM
Paula Badosa is ranked 14th on the WTA Tour and her accomplishments this season have been amazing. The former World’s #8 didn’t even think she’d be playing tennis again after a harsh back injury and started the season ranked 64th.
Since the beginning of the North American swing, Badosa is 20 – 4 with a title run at Washington, DC included.
Badosa is 25 – 10 on hard courts this season and a 36 – 17 record ensures that she will produce a winning season for the sixth straight campaign.
HADDAD MAIA VS BADOSA H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Haddad Maia and Badosa met twice during last season and split wins.
The first meeting was at Adelaide and Badosa won the match in straight sets. The second affair occurred a month later in Doha and Haddad Maia returned the favor with a straight-sets win to level the series at 1 – 1.
