The handicap on this match comes down to strengths and weaknesses and the conditions on offer. Yunchaokete undoubtedly has a bigger baseline game and more raw power. In slower conditions, where point construction, consistency and patience are so valuable, however, he’s likely to find himself behind the eight ball against Basavareddy.
He’s more solid from the back of the court, he constructs points more astutely, he defends well against the power Yunchaokete can bring, and the courts should afford him more time to do just that.
I have this handicap closer to the -3.5 mark, so I’m content with going for a larger stake to start things off in the desert.

Nishesh Basavareddy Recent Form
Gaël Monfils, Monfils again, Novak Djokovic and Denis Shapovalov. That is the list of players that Basavareddy has lost to in 2025. A combination of skill, high ranking, form and ball striking is what it has taken to overwhelm the upstart American.
Basavareddy’s serve has been coming along in the last year, and when paired with his elite solidity from the baseline and smart play and point construction, it’s made him a dangerous player against those who aren’t at the top of the game.
The 19-year-old is primed for a top-100 debut and it’s very likely he’ll do so on home soil in the same state that he went to college in.
Basavareddy has a strong matchup edge and against fringe main tour players or those more suited to the Challenger circuit, he hasn’t had any problems winning by margin this season.
Sure, there’s always the possibility that Yunchaokete’s power is dialed up and he’s hitting his spots on the day, but we’re playing a game of probabilities and in that world, Basavareddy has to be a bigger favourite in order for me to pass on this wager.
Bu Yunchaokete Recent Form
It’s been a rough start to Yunchaokete’s first full season on the main tour. It’s not an easy jump and it turns out that the world No. 71 may not be ready just yet.
He had plenty of success last summer playing American Challengers (that tend to have weaker fields) and then had a hot streak that lasted about fortnight on home soil.
Since then, he’s been playing at a higher level and has fallen behind. Yunchaokete is just 3-8 in 2025, with losses to some top players lately, but some mediocre players prior to that.
His game is strong enough to stick around with the big guns, but it could still use some refining, which Basavareddy should be able to exploit.
Nishesh Basavareddy vs Bu Yunchaokete H2H – Stat of the Match
These two haven’t met one another yet. Basavareddy is still just 19 years old, after all, and spent a lot of his time playing tennis in college prior to joining the pro ranks last year.
