With an unlikely matchup in the Italian Open quarterfinals, Victoria Azarenka and Danielle Collins square off on Wednesday with a trip to the semis at stake. Ej’s Azarenka vs Collins prediction for this quarterfinal match in Rome is featured below with odds at -109.

Collins has the favoritism of the line setters as she competes in her last Internazionali BNL d’Italia. The 15th Ranked American has announced that this will be her final trip to Italy, as she is set to retire at the end of the 2024 campaign.

Azarenka hopes to spoil the party, and she is no stranger to the quarterfinals in Rome throughout her career.

AZARENKA VS COLLINS PREDICTION: COLLINS’ DOMINANT CLAY SEASON CONTINUES

  • Prediction: Danielle Collins -3.5 Games Handicap
  • Best Odds: -109 (1.92)
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time May 15, 2024. Odds may now differ.

Danielle Collins might be retiring at the end of the season but she is showing no signs of slowing down on her way out. Collins announced in January that this would be her final year on tour to begin other ventures in her life, and life is good right now on the court.

While Azarenka will be competing in her seventh Italian Open quarterfinal, Collins has never seen this stage of the event. At the same token, not one of Azarenka’s QF appearances has amounted to a title run, in Rome or any other clay tournament since 2011.

Anyone who bets on women’s tennis knows Azarenka can provide a disappointing effort, and I have experience with that. Azarenka has won one title on tour since 2016, a 2020 win in Cincinnati, and I can’t invest my hard-earned money to get past Dani on clay this evening in Rome.

I suggest the -3.5 Games Handicap with Collins to ease past Azarenka in the Italian Open quarterfinals. Collins is 11 – 1 on clay this season and is on top of her game like never before.

Collins has two titles from the swing in America at Miami and Charleston and the 31 – 8 overall record has her on pace for her second 40-win campaign. Danielle was 40 – 15 in 2021, and an impressive 11 – 3 on clay that season.

The Correct Score 2 – 0 is listed at +110, and the Under 20.5 features odds at +110.

Collins takes this match 4 & 3 putting my max at 19 games. The Under 19.5 is +143 at Unibet so I can see the value there if you want to take that chance. My Azarenka vs Collins prediction is for Collins to cover the -3.5 games handicap.

VICTORIA AZARENKA RECENT FORM

Azarenka struggled with Magda Linette and Mayar Sherif needing three sets to get past them. Sakkari folded like the lawn chair she is, and Azarenka took full advantage of it to reach the quarterfinal in Rome.

Victoria has lost her last five quarterfinal appearances on clay, and the last time she met Collins on this surface she got taken out in straight sets.

DANIELLE COLLINS RECENT FORM

Collins is 11 – 1 on clay this season, and her only loss came against Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid. Ironically, Sabalenka and Collins are on a collision course for the semifinals in Rome, should they both advance today.

AZARENKA VS COLLINS HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Collins is 2 – 1 against Azarenka and 1 – 0 on clay. Their most recent meeting came in the Credit One Bank International here in the United States, and Collins blew past Azarenka with a convincing 6 – 1 opening set win.

Azarenka won their 2019 clash in Acapulco, and their first meeting ended with Azarenka leaving the court with an injury in San Jose.
