It couldn’t have gotten off to a better start to the 2025 campaign for Ito with 5 wins at Canberra to lift the tournament hardware. The Japanese native didn’t drop a set and faced Sasnovich, Stojanovic, and Parrizas-Diaz en route to the trophy. Next came the defeat to 212th-ranked Sayaka Ishii at the Australian Open and the loss to 591st-ranked Saisai Zheng in Singapore before the loss to Kenin last week in Abu Dhabi.

Anna Bondar made a quick appearance at Canberra but was only there for one match after the loss to Arianne Hartono.

The loss to Suzan Lamens at the Transylvania Open was nothing to be shamed about because the match was a wild affair that ended 7 – 6, 7 – 6. 

Bondar smashed 10 aces against Lamens and her serve was in good form against the  6t7th-ranked France native.

If I have to put my hard-earned money on either player to advance, it will go toward Bondar with the marginal juice we have to pay at -115.

Aoi Ito started the week ranked 114th on the WTA Tour and is 0 – 3 after a 5 – 0 run to the Canberra title.

The 20-year-old Japan native went 62 – 24 in 2024 including a 5 – 0 on grass to hoist the WTA50 Nanao ITF trophy. Aoi Ito won three tournaments last season and jumped from 383rd to 126th in the WTA Rankings.

ANNA BONDAR RECENT FORM

Anna Bondar is entering the prime of her career but a 5 – 5 start to the season leaves room for improvement.

Bondar is ranked 94th on the WTA tour and claimed four tournament titles last season, three at the ITF level and one Challenger event. 

With a 49 – 33 record last season, Bondar completed a fourth straight campaign with a winning record.
