Well, look who is in the semifinals of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Anna Schmiedlova has been playing the role of underdog since she arrived in Paris, and the Slovak native is eyeing a medal that no one could have predicted. 

Almost no one! I have been trying to tell everyone that the line setters have had no faith in the Slovakian this week, and now I am 3 – 0 taking Anna at the Olympics because I believe!

Pinnacle is offering +174 on the chances of Schmiedlova advancing to the final, and this time I am not bothering with the handicap. Anna has not only won all four of her matches at the Olympic Games but she has only dropped one set in this tournament to Jasmine Paolini. 

When I first saw the -200 posted on Vekic I couldn’t start this article quick enough. Vekic cost me my first loss of the week yesterday, and I still can’t believe it. Marta Kostyuk was up 4 – 0 and 5 – 2 in the third-set tie-break against Vekic, and then the wheels fell off for the Ukrainian.

Kostyuk was broken four consecutive times and five total after gaining that lead in the final stanza, and I am still cleaning the floor because it made me sick! I was two points from being 6 – 0 this week at the Paris Olympics so now I am out for revenge on Vekic.

Schmiedlova Moneyline goes on the board at +175 because that dog has plenty of bites left in her.

ANNA SCHMIEDLOVA RECENT FORM

Anna Schmiedlova is now 3 – 11 against opponents ranked in the top 10 after her win over Krejcikova on Wednesday. That’s the second such scalp in this tournament and her record on clay improved to 170 – 100. 

Schmiedlova is 16 – 8 this season on the dirt and one more win in Paris would give the Slovak her first chance at a medal at the Olympics. 

DONNA VEKIC RECENT FORM

Donna Vekic is 9 – 1 in her last 10 matches with the lone loss coming in the Wimbledon final, so the Croatian native is in a good frame of mind entering the semis.

Vekic is ranked 21st in the world and feeling good after the magical run to the Wimbledon final leading to Paris. Donna was only 3 – 4 on clay this season before the four wins at Roland Garros this week and could be a concern.

SCHMIEDLOVA VS VEKIC H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Anna and Donna have only met once previously, and Vekic won that match in straight sets. The clash happened in 2018 at Luxembourg so I doubt either of them remembers it.
