Paula Badosa and Anna Kalinskaya did what I thought they would do on Wednesday, although Kalinskaya didn’t cover the -3 by one damn game! Still finding the win, Kalinskaya didn’t look in form early against Katerina Siniakova after getting dumped in the first set, 6 – 1. 

I was concerned about Anna after exiting Toronto early which I mentioned yesterday, and it ultimately cost me a bet despite the comeback and winning the game count, 13 – 11. I am still dumbfounded by a total of 24 games in a three-set affair but it was nice to see Anna turn on the jets and play some nice tennis to advance in this WTA1000 event in the Queen City.

Kalinskaya came into this event as the 13-seed and staying hydrated and cool in the Cincinnati humidity is a must after it cost her the tournament in Canada. Thursday is supposed to be the hottest day of the week at 90 degrees F, and the humidity will be in the 50s creating another hot event in the Queen City.

Paula Badosa did exactly what I said she would do against local Peyton Stearns who is now 0 – 2 in her hometown of Cincinnati on the WTA Tour. Badosa broke Stearns twice in the opening frame and the third break in the second set ended the match to push the Spaniard through to the second round.

We’re getting an epic clash that goes the distance so buckle up those Over 2.5 Sets props and strap them in! 

ANNA KALINSKAYA RECENT FORM

It took a 6 – 1 first-set loss to wake up Anna Kalinskaya on Wednesday against Katerina Siniakova. Kalinskaya broke Siniakova twice to start the second set and the momentum shift started there jumping out to a 4 – 0 lead and a 6 – 2 win to send the match to the extra frame.

Kalinskaya broke Siniakova on four of her five service games in the final stanza including the final straw at love to close the match.

The 25-year-old is ranked 16th on the WTA Tour and has accumulated an impressive 21- 7 record on hardcourts this campaign. 

PAULA BADOSA RECENT FORM

Paula Badosa pocketed over $780.000 from the run to the Washington DC title, and the former World’s #8 is playing more like she was back in 2020-21.

Badosa is ranked 37th on tour but is only 12 – 7 on this surface this season with six coming from DC and Toronto alone.

Paula hasn’t always played her best tennis as a favorite but she will have to shake that off today as the chalk in this second-round clash Kalinskaya.
