Anna Kalinskaya was the final-seeded player headed into the main draw of the Miami Open, and the 32-seed will open the ledger against Moyuka Uchijima on Thursday from Miami Gardens.

Kalinskaya has been full of disappointment dropping four straight decisions entering this WTA1000 event, but the line setters have placed her as the favorite to advance to the second round.

EJ Garr’s prediction for Anna Kalinskaya vs. Moyuka Uchijima features odds of +106, which you can find below.

Anna Kalinskaya vs Moyuka Uchijima WTA Miami Open Prediction: An Upset Brewing In Miami

  • Prediction: Moyuka Uchijima To Win
  • Best Odds: +106
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on March 21, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Anna Kalinskaya won three games in Singapore this season. Well, that’s all the positive we can find, but she does train in Miami so that’s good.

In all seriousness, it has been a disappointing start to the 2025 campaign for the 26-year-old who should be approaching the prime of her career.

After dropping the first set against Ann Li in Singapore, which ended her only three-match win streak of the year, Kalinskaya lost the first game of the second set and walked off the court taking the loss. It’s been three straight one-and-done’s since then and Kalinskaya is desperate for a confident-building outing.

This won’t be one of those wins because I have Uchijima upsetting Kalinskaya at +106 odds. Seeing Kalinskaya listed at -125 doesn’t make any statement that she will get back on track, so I am ultimately playing the line and fading her until she snaps out of it.

If Kalinskaya were listed at -150, maybe the line setters could convince more people to take her to win with the marginal juice, but it won’t be us.

Uchijima looked comfortable against Suzan Lamens in the first round, sweeping the Dutch native off the court in the opening round of the Miami Open.

The Japanese native defeated Raducanu at Indian Wells and took a set from Coco Gauff before exiting that WTA1000 event.

I have more confidence in Uchijima at this moment than I do to suggest paying any price for Kalinskaya, so the plus-money offer on the upset in Miami is the play to make.

ANNA KALINSKAYA RECENT FORM

Anna Kalinskaya is officially 0 – 4 in the last four outings and is 3 – 6 to begin the 2025 campaign.

Kalinskaya found three wins in Singapore before retiring from the tournament, and she recently lost to Alycia Parks at Indian Wells as a -140 favorite. Being favored doesn’t make you the better player, it puts more pressure on you to win!

MOYUKA UCHIJIMA RECENT FORM

Moyuka Ichijima is ranked 53rd and is 20 spots behind 33rd-ranked Kalinskaya. That is just paperwork and that will have no impact on the outcome of this second-round match at Miami Gardens.

Uchijima is playing in her 20th match of the campaign and has a 9 – 10 record in 2025. The Japanese native is 5 – 3 in the last eight outings and went 3 – 0 in Dubai before the loss to Elena Rybakina.

KALINSKAYA VS UCHIJIMA HTH –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Kalinskaya and Uchijima will face each other for the first time on the WTA Tour today at the Miami Open.

The winner of this match will likely face Jess Pegula in the third round. Pegula is heavily favored to defeat Bernarda Pera in her second-round clash in Section 6 of the bottom half of the bracket.
