When this line first came out, I saw Rebeka Masarova at -125 and now we’re looking at some sites offering -145 and -150 for the Spaniard to win this match. I don’t know who has that much confidence in Masarova right now to toss a boatload of money around but the early steam is what it is.
A 3-match losing skid doesn’t make me confident enough to lay the handicap in this spot because I can see Masarova dropping a set and scrambling to pick up any kind of win in Thailand.
Let’s also point out that the run to the semifinal for Rebeka in Cary, NC wasn’t filled with high-quality opponents. The recent loss to 148th-ranked Zeynep Sonmez in Tunisia doesn’t help matters and I think she’ll be lucky to advance.
Anna Bondar would much rather play this tournament on clay and we all know this. Hard courts aren’t where Anna finds much success as she was 10 – 0 with two titles on clay before coming to North America.
That confidence didn’t carry over to Cleveland and after only one win at the US Open the Hungarian was ousted from the last Major Tourney of the campaign and has been off for nearly 3 weeks and she’ll be playing doubles this week.
I foresee a 3-set affair that goes to Bondar, so the Over 2.5 Sets prop hits the board at +140 and that underdog will pull the upset in the first round of the Thailand Open.
ANNA BONDAR RECENT FORM
Anna Bondar is 2 – 1 in North America having only competed in two hardcourt tournaments since March. Bondar is 12 – 11 on this surface this season and earned her first hardcourt tourney win at a WTA75 ITF level event in Porto earlier this campaign.
Bondar ran off 10 straight wins on clay including two trophy runs in Germany before leaving for the States and the 32 – 13 record on the dirt will keep her record well above .500 this season.
REBEKA MASAROVA FORM
Masarova is 0 – 3 in her last 3 outings and the 25-year-old Spaniard is 9 – 13 on hardcourts this campaign.
Rebeka entered 2024 ranked 63rd with a 23 – 27 record that number has fallen to 116th on the WTA Tour.
Masarova is 5 – 9 over the last 14 matches and all four wins are against opponents ranked outside the top 100.
BONDAR VS MASAROVA H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
Masarova has won each of the two meetings with Bondar and both clashes were on clay.
In 2022 they met in Bucharest and Masarova earned the straight-sets victory, 6 – 4, 6 – 2.
This past May in Madrid Masaraova got past Bondar with a straight-sets win, 7 – 6, 6 – 4.
