Here we are in the quarters and when I saw the -105 on either woman to progress the choice to put Bondar on the board was just as easy for me. I already called that Bondar and Sherif are on a crash course for the semis in the upper bracket. 

Sherif has dismantled both of her opponents in Germany this week, and the Egyptian is a big favorite at -175 to get past Olga Danilovic in the other quarterfinal in this bracket.

The lines are moving toward Bondar and what started as an even match has now turned into a -125 offer on the Hungarian to advance. We’re not settling for that because juice is not our friend so I suggest grabbing the -1.5 games handicap on Bondar instead 

Anna is riding a 7-match win streak dating back to the title run Hechingen last week and the other thing the Hungarian can rely on is experience beating Eva Lys. Bondar has dominated Lys in three meetings and I expect that number to change to 4 – 0 after today.

Eva Lys looked to be cruising to a win over Ella Seidel after a convincing first-set win but the match took a turn when Seidel forced a third set. Lys only put 40% of her first serves in play in the final frame but still held on to take the dub.

Bondar came into Hamburg ranked 94th and after this win over Eva Lys today that number should improve with a semifinal appearance. 

Anna’s record improved to 29 – 13 on clay this season after the second-round win yesterday over Baindl. Bondar is chasing a fourth tournament win this season and her third on clay in the 2024 campaign.  

EVA LYS RECENT FORM

Eva Lys entered Hamburg ranked 112th on the WTA tour and the German native has yet to claim a title on the dirt in her young career. The 22-year-old’s father was a Ukrainian National who played in the Davis Cup and is still coaching here in Hamburg today after bringing Eva to Germany when she was 2.

Lys has a record of 29 – 20 on clay over the last three campaigns and is positioned to have a positive record on all three surfaces for the first time this season. 

BONDAR VS LYS H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Anna Bondar is 3 – 0 against Eva Lys including two wins on clay.

The two met twice in 2021 and one of those clashes happened here in Hamburg in the round of 16. That was a WTA25-level affair at the time played on a hardcourt and the second meeting took place at the Hague in the Netherlands.
