A struggling Anna Blinkova will try to pick up the pieces as she goes up against a favored Sara Sorribes Tormo on Monday at the Jasmin Open in Monastir, Tunisia.

Blinkova has dropped her last eight decisions and has fallen to 81st in the WTA Rankings with a poor run of results dating back to June.

Sorribes Tormo isn’t in much better shape with three wins from her last 13 outings bringing two players in a funk together in the bottom bracket of the main draw.

EJ Garr’s Anna Blinkova vs Sara Sorribes Tormo prediction leans on the Spaniard to advance so check out his tip with -105 odds below.

Anna Blinkova vs Sara Sorribes Tormo Prediction: Spaniard Favored in Tunisia

  • Prediction: Sara Sorribes Tormo -2.5 Games Handicap
  • Best Odds: -105
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds updated at 7:00 am UK Time on September 9, 2024.

Neither Anna Blinkova nor Sara Sorribes Tormo has been playing confident tennis lately turning this match into a coin-flip decision.

Blinkova is mired in an 8-match skid dating back to June and she’s only won three sets of the 19 played during the run. That accounts for the underdog status but the 25-year-old has seen the ranking drop 31 spots from 50th to 81st which completely turns around the progression over the last two campaigns.

Blinkova put up two winning campaigns coming into 2024 and you would hope her game would improve at this point and not be going backwards. Anna was 0 – 2 in two clay events before coming to North America, and she is happy to leave after four losses in four cities including back-to-back losses at 1 and 1 to finish the swing.

Sorribes Tormo has dropped 10 of her last 13 matches yet is favored against the 8-seed in this WTA250 event at -150. Sara took nearly a month off after the Olympics and her trip to America didn’t last long either (2 – 2)

Ironically, if Blinkova gets past Sorribes Tormo, the potential for a clash with her doubles partner Maya Sherif is next in the second round.

I don’t think that will be the case because Sorribes Tormo will cruise to a win over Blinkova leaving her with a 9-match losing slide. At -105, I’ll invest in the Spaniard to cover the minimal handicap of -2.5 Games.

ANNA BLINKOVA RECENT FORM

We shouldn’t be allowed to speak about Anna Blinkova’s recent form because there is nothing good to discuss, When you have lost your last 8 matches and only won three sets anyone’s confidence would be shattered.

Blinkova is 11 – 24 this season and her hardcourt record is 7 – 12 this year. With a 4 – 12 record on grass and clay, it’s been a miserable campaign!

SARA SORRIBES TORMO RECENT FORM

Sorribes Tormo is 4 – 10 on hardcourts this season and holds a 3 – 10 record in her last 13 matches.

Sara is 13 – 22 overall and her ranking has fallen from 58th to 115th which is the first time since 2017 that the Spaniard hasn’t appeared in the top 100.

BLINKOVA VS SORRIBES TORMO H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Blinkova is officially 2 – 1 against Sorribes Tormo although two meetings have been shorted due to a player leaving early.

The first meeting was in 2019 in Guangzhou, China, and Blinkova was granted a victory after Sorribes Tormo left the court in the third set down 4 games to 1.

The two met in Ostrava during the 2020 campaign, and this time Blinkova couldn’t finish the match giving Sorribes Tormo the win.

Last year the two met in Hong Kong and they finally finished a match. Blonkova earned a straight-sets win in the quarterfinal and Leylah Fernandez took her out in the semis.
