Anastasia Potapova’s return of serve has propelled her game and she proved it again in the opening round of the Transylvania Open. Potapova faced 392nd-ranked Julia Grabher and a break in the first set won her the frame and a 6 – 0 second set finished the match with three more breaks of serve.

The first set was a bit concerning for Potapova (6 – 4) but the top seed in this WTA250 event turned on the jets to close the match in style breaking Grabher all three times in the second frame (6 – 0). It was Julia Grabher though so there’s that.

Viktorija Golubic is ranked 113th and the line setters expect the Swiss native to go down in flames against the 1-seed in Romania. Golubic has yet to defeat Potapova in three tries and that dominance in the series will continue today.

I have a trio of suggestions for this match with decent odds on the action. The first-set total Under 20.5 games is listed at -105 and Potapova to win this match in straight-sets features odds at +105.

With my first set Under 8.5 at +170 as the featured bet, I foresee 6 – 2, 6 – 2, and a convincing win for the 1-seed.

The loss against 205th-ranked Sinja Kraus at Linz is still bothering me and getting past Arantxa Rus doesn’t leave me impressed either.

Anastasia Potapova is 6 – 3 this season but the losses against Muchova and Pavlyuchenkova are nothing to feel shamed about. Potapova took them both to three sets before the defeats and a 113th-ranked opponent today gives her the edge to advance to the quarterfinal.

Potapova recorded a 26 – 22 record in 2024 and hasn’t had a losing record on any surface for three seasons.

VIKTORIJA GOLUBIC RECENT FORM

Viktorija Golubic ended the 2024 campaign on a high note winning the Limoges trophy while producing a 29 – 22 record.

Golubic picked up three wins at the Australian Open to qualify for the main draw but was ousted in the first round against Elise Mertens in three sets.

The 32-year-old Swiss veteran is 5 – 2 in 2025 and the two losses went the distance.
