Anastasia Potapova vs Elina Avanesyan Prediction, Picks, Odds, H2H, Stats - 6/17/24
Anastasia Potapova hasn’t played a match in 2 weeks and her first grass tournament in Birmingham shows Potapova as the favorite against qualifier Elina Avanesyan. Ej’s Anastasia Potapova vs Elina Avanesyan prediction features odds at -115 and can be found below.
Avanesyan is 2 – 0 after two wins in qualifying to begin her grass campaign, and this is the first event she has played in the UK as we get closer to Wimbledon.
Potapova is competing in her third Birmingham tournament in her career, and she has reached the quarters on both occasions with one trip to the semis last year.

POTAPOVA VS AVANESYAN PREDICTION: A RUSSIAN SHOWDOWN IN THE UK
- Prediction: Elina Avanesyan +3.5 Games Handicap
- Best Odds: -115
- Bookmaker: Pinnacle
- Stakes: 3/10
Updated on: June 17, 2024. Odds may now differ.
Anastasia Potopova enters Birmingham as the 7-seed in the bottom bracket as she makes her debut on grass this campaign. The line settlers are posting a -200 and higher for a Potapova win, and when I saw the +175 on the outright win for Avanesyan I figured we would get a few games to pocket.
We got that and the hook at +3.5, and I like this total to go over the 21.5 Games. I don’t see why this match can’t go 3 sets, and I don’t care that Potapova is 36th to Elina’s 78th.
Elina just got past Lucky Loser Caroline Dolehide in her second qualifying match at Birmingham, and the 1 & 4 win was rather decisive. Avanesyan had a few issues with her grass debut in her first qualifying match against Emily Appleton, ranked 353rd in the world.
We’ll give Appleton some credit for playing well in the UK but a 4 & 3 effort, but it shouldn’t have been that close.
The two-week layoff for Potapova is on my mind, and it might take a hot minute to get the brain wrapped around playing on grass again. It is also amazing that 2016 seems like forever ago and the now 23-year-old won the Wimbledon Girl’s title at 15 in her only grass event that season.
Potapova hasn’t come close to repeating that effort on the WTA Tour on grass, although her best record of 5 – 2 on this surface last year.
I don’t think anyone would deny that Avanesyan has had much more success on clay than on grass in her career. Elina put up her best record of 4 – 3 on this surface last season, and I see Avanesyan keeping the game count close to enough to cover 3.5 Games.
ANASTASIA POTAPOVA RECENT FORM
Potapova has the 7-seed, the chalk, and the experience in Birmingham to hope for another deep run in this event. Last season, Anastasia reached the semifinal after reaching the quarters in her Birmingham debut in 2021.
ELINA AVANESYAN RECENT FORM
Avanesyan is 2 – 0 in Birmingham, and we can assume she wants to make a deep run in only her fourth tournament played on grass. Nerves as the underdog should ease as she hits some shots and gains confidence as this first-round match plays out.
Elina was only 6 – 6 on hard courts before a 5 – 5 clay swing so she finally has a winning record with the two wins in qualifying.
POTAPOVA VS AVANESYAN H2H – STAT OF THE MATCH
This will be the first meeting between Potapova and Avanesyan but expect to see the two young Russians (23 & 21) clash again soon.
