Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will take on Anastasia Potapova in the second round of the Australian Open out of section 2 of the main draw.

Only four spots separate the compatriots in the WTA Rankings and the line setters show no favoritism toward either player posting a -110 offer on the coin flip.

EJ Garr’s prediction for Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Anastasia Potapova calls for a match that goes the distance so check out the preview below.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Anastasia Potapova WTA Australian Open Prediction: We’re Going The Distance

  • Prediction: Match Total Over 2.5 Sets
  • Best Odds: +130
  • Bookmaker: Pinnacle
  • Stakes: 3/10

Odds as of 7:00 am UK Time on January 14, 2025. Odds may now differ.

Once again I get to use my favorite phrase! We’re going the distance and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Anastasia Potapova will need three sets to declare the victor.

The instant that Potapova wiped out Tamara Zidansek yesterday, the match was set for the two compatriots to battle for a third-round showing in the first Major Tournament of the 2025 campaign.

Pavlyuchenkova has had an extra day of rest after getting past Yue Yuan in the first round but it wasn’t a pushover for the -150 favorite. Yuan dropped the first set, 6 – 4, and responded with an equivalent scoreline in the second frame to force the match to go the distance.

Pavlyuchenkova was broken five times against the 53rd-ranked Chinese native to open the event which is a concern facing Potapova.

Potapova can break glass with a feather and her return of serve has kept her in so many matches over the last two years. Potapova broke Zidansek five times in the first round but her serve was quite off despite the straight-sets win.

Potapova committed four double faults and only put 50% of her first serves in play against Zidansek and that type of effort will get her sent packing quickly against Pavlyuchenkova.

The two have split wins in two meetings and this rubber match will need three sets so grab the +130 offer on the Over 2.5 sets prop.

ANASTASIA PAVLYUCHENKOVA RECENT FORM

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova stopped playing tennis after the US Open last season and was off the court four months before the trip to Australia. Pavlyuchenkova played in one match at Adelaide and got ousted in the first round against Marketa Vondrousova as the only tune-up for the Major.

After a 27 – 19 2024 season, Pavlyuchenkova finished the year ranked 30th and has fallen to 32nd to start the week after the loss at Adelaide.

ANASTASIA POTAPOVA RECENT FORM

Anastasia Potapova went 2 – 1 at Brisbane as the only tune-up for the first Major of the year and ended the 2024 campaign 1 – 2 in Asia.

Potapova produced a 26 – 22 record last year completing three straight campaigns with a winning record..Anastasia compiled a 62 – 51 record on hard courts from 2021 – 2024 and is 3 – 1 to start the new campaign after the first-round win over Zidansek.

PAVLYUCHENKOVA VS POTAPOVA H2H –  STAT OF THE MATCH

Pavlyuchenkova and Potapova have each won a match against each other in two TWA meetings. They first met during the 2021 campaign in Istanbul, and Potapova earned a three-set win that was a wild affair. The first two sets went to tie-breaks and 36 total games were played.

Pavlyuchenkova exacted revenge at the 2023 French Open, and once again the match went three sets. Expect another lengthy battle to ensue today in the second round of the Australian Open.
